I Have 500$ to spend on speed

You don't neeed heads for a PI swap. The cams and intake is what nets most of the hp. The heads will get you 5-10rwhp due to the increase in compression. The NPI heads can be used which have a better quench pad and burn faster than the PI heads. Granted the exhaust side of it can use some work. The money you use for heads can be used to port the NPI's and you can still use the PI cams. Plus this will make more hp than if you went with PI heads anyways.

Some people have had great success with NPI heads. Johnny L is running 12.3's with his NPI headed motor in a T bird.

don't get this argument. PI heads in stock form make more power. PI heads in ported form make more power.

Why would you go with a non-pi head. there are people running 12.3 on stock pi heads.

bottom line to me is you couldproably find heads, cams, intake for $500. there is more power there and it is an easy job.

I am not going to argue, I am offering info. Like I said Johnny L has gone 12.3 with NA NPI head 2V in his T Bird.

Actually unless it is a real race setup, ported PI's will not be noticed over poerted NPI's. Why? You have too much airflow for those PI cams and they can't be used to their full potential and you will lose some torque due to the loss in velocity. Ported NPI's can still work with PI cams. Chances are you will have to go with an aftermarket cam at a stage 2 or 3 depending on the port job with PI's. Once you start going with a/m cams you are starting to get away from a pi swap and more into a race engine design.

The NPI's are better in a NA setup when ported. Plus their port designs are better. Better quench pad too.

Why would I go with a NPI? Because the money I save can be used for something else like porting the stock NPI heads and make use of them and getting roughly the same hp as the PI's.

Too many people are on the pi head bandwagon when people have made the same power on NA street applications with a NPI head. Many people are quick to say then port the PI heads with an oem cam. Come on now.

I know what you are saying I have read the threads I just know me from an easy install standpoint would do the PI topend. I will take the extra compression if I am n/a. no gasket issues etc to fight. that is just me though.

I still have seen PI cars go 10's have not seen Npi cars go tens.

I do get your point though.
