I just heard some interesting stuff about aftermarket...

Intake Manifolds. I was talking to my friend today and he told me some things about these aftermarket intake manifolds that got me thinkin. He said the GT40 and Cobra Intake Manifold is probably the best intakes around for the N/A street cars. He says that the Trick Flow Street Heat was made for a lot more air, like operating between 1800-6500RPMS, he said that they are underrated. Which is kinda true, I lost a ton of bottom end when I switched from a Stock manifold to a Street Heat. He also said that the Edelbrock Manifolds are the same way, he said that they are made to do there best at RPMS I don't even come close too :bs:

I wouldn't believe him, but I did have kind of a experience with losing all that bottom end. Does anybody know if this is true, or if it makes sense. I am contemplating switching to a Cobra, cuz they are brand new for only 395.00, and you don't have to worry about the EGR. Also, I like the looks of the GT40. Can somebody tell me what is up.... PLEASE

those gt40 heads don't likely flow enough for anything better than a gt40/cobra intake. the explorers came from the factory with gt40 heads, and a gt40 clone intake. I've done a lot of research on this topic, and it seems the gt40 heads flow best with a stock HO cam, and a gt40 type intake at the most. Any more, and you're gonna dump your bottom end.

Your friend is incredibly stupid. I had a tfs street heat on my 302 and it was dying after 5500. It was NOT enough manifold for my tiny n/a 302. Apparently your friend has never heard of a thing called VALVE TIMING ;)

I've got to agree with some of the original post. The Cobra intake, when ported is a great intake for a STREET car. Now, I have no experience with TFS street heat intakes or GT-40 heads, but that seems like a miss match. A better head like a TFS, would wake that up I would think.

What was your combo with that intake? Just curious to see why the Street heat was not enough.

Cobra and GT40 intakes flow really much beter when compared to stock and yes they are geared for N/A street cars that run between 1500-6000RPM. IF you run a stock cam and heads though don't waste time and money expecting big power gains!!! The stock heads are the biggest problem on the 5.0 when it comes to airflow!!!! Get the GT-40 Y303s or even the Twisted Wedge heads and a Cobra or GT40 and you will be happy!!! Also install a 3.55 or 3.73 rear end gear and you will be all set for a short time and then you will want more!!!

My combo was stock short with TW heads milled .020", FTI custom cam, 1 5/8" longtubes, 2.5" exhaust, 75mm tb. The combo NEEDED an rpm manifold with a ported lower. I bet a 1 5/8"- 1 3/4" stepped longtube would have helped too. I've sold the cam to my friend who is basically building the combo I had but using an rpm manifold that Tmoss ported the lower with a 75mm tb. The tfs intake kinda made the power die off too soon where it should have peaked a little higher and held the power longer.

Im now on to bigger and better things ;)
