I just purchased Washmo's 66 coupe and he wanted me to post to introduce myself. He is a good friend of mine and said he recieved a ton of help from this site.
Well, you got a heck of a deal I'm sure, Todd is a great guy and I'm sad to see him get rid of the car, but I guess if your going to get rid of one, he's done it for the right reasons.
You should have seen his **** eatin grin when he drove it last night on the street.......on slicks........
I could not have sold it to a better qualified guy. He is already a gearhead who has a very sweet dirt track car (enclosed trailer, shop) that he campaigns every Saturday night at the local track.
Not to mention he has a good job, no kids and is not married so I know the ole coupe is going to get all the attention ($$$) it needs and more.
I told him that if I don't know the answer this is the place to find it for sure. Lots of knowledge in here no matter what your looking for.
And right now he is looking for a custom / off the shelf turnkey guage cluster to replace the old stocker, he called JME and they quoted 15 weeks. Any other sources that have similar high quality clusters that are in stock?
I guess I'll have to change my signature, time slip info and picture now that I am a former owner.
Well, if he's not looking for fancy, the R model cluster is the way to go, inexpensive and looks racey, not ricey. Put your own Auto Meter gauges in it and go. I've got an idea, but it would need a couple of old '66 bezels to make it work. I may have to put up a post to see if anyone has a couple that they'd part with for shipping.
Thanks for the feedback. This is my first mustang and I'm not really a ford guy but this car is pretty impressive. I am starting to go through everything and starting to work out some of the bugs and came across a headlight issue. I noticed at night when I get on it the lights go off and then come right back on. I thought it was just lifting the front end up but I had a friend watch and they are actually going out for a split second. I start checking things out and came across the High Beam switch. When you push it it turns ou the lights. It works as a light switch. I picked up a new switch today and am going to try that tonight but I have never seen this before so I don't think its going to be that easy to fix....
By the way this car has KB pistons in it does anyone have any luck squirting a 100 shot of NOS to KB pistons or am I going to kill it? I've heard mixed feelings on it. My engine builder says that I more than likely won't hurt the pistons but the main caps may not be able to take much more power...(keep in mind he builds my chevy race car engines for me)
I have used a 100 shot on cast pistons for a long time without damage. Are they the KB hypereutectics?I have heard they are weak, but most cast pistons should handle up to 150 max,but i would stay at 125 max.
Sounds like a wire grounding out. If Todd never put a relay system on that car, I'm probably convert it. Lots of people put better and brighter bulbs, even halogen, in these cars and the factory switch just isn't designed to handle it.
I wouldn't worry too much about the 100 shot, I wouldn't put more than that. I wouldn't worry about the main caps either, the bearings are what you'll need to watch, but you know that already.
