alright...well i was on my lil stint of that s/c but i know ill need to spend more than i want in the long run and i should have a decent set of heads anyways. now i see a set of "track heat heads ported by pan handle stage 3 port job with valves 205/160" . those for $800 and he was interested in my broken t-5 with a core value of $100 so basically $700. id get a nice set of springs too go to with them but should i be lookin at a new cam with these heads? i have a street heat intake that will be going on when i do all of this too and gettin rid of the cobra. am i looking at something decent or just point me in the right direction because heads are fairly new to me and i got about a grand to toss at my car

anyone have these heads ported this much?? would this be too much for my setup cause he knocked down the price to $600 flat. ill have to buy my own springs which i dont mind at all but i wanna know if these heads are gonna hurt me instead of helping. like i said, i wont put them on until next spring when i also have a track heat intake, 24# injectors and maf and i will be getting a tune sometime right after they go on. lemme know soon cause i dont want to pass up on a deal like this

I don't like any company that offers "staging" to their port work. It's too cookie cutter. Anyhow, let look past my opinion and look at a few things...

Those valves are humongous. I don't even know if someone could grind you a cam without the pistons wacking the valves. If you want to put new pistons in it, it would be a necessity for you to put a custom cam in it. Camming a car with such huge cylinder heads takes very late and quick timing events especially if you want to put it on a wide LSA so it'll idle half decent. I'd recommend Jay Allen for a cam, not because I don't like Ed Curtis. My cousin is getting ready to swap heads and a cam into his 87 GT and I already talked to Ed about it. I trust everything Ed does. It comes down to the fact that Jay Allen is flat out AWESOME with TFS stuff. He also has a knack for using "big" cylinder heads on a "small" motor and turning the car into a cruise missle.

so you are basically sayin those valves are just too big for my stock bottom end?? im definately not going to be be anything to the bottom end of my car. just kinda wanted to be able to toss them on with some springs, retainers and whatnot. he said he had it on a stock bottom end with a anderson b4 cam-with k-motion springs that held the lift upto 700. 700 is definately too much for my car i think. i drove his car and he had a powerdyne s/c on it with i believe 8-9lbs of boost on it. felt like a strong car and idled fine at 900rpms. would i be able to turn around and make money on them in the spring if i decide that the valves are too big for me?? just seems too good a price to pass

btw, i will be gettinga custom cam for the set of heads i will be getting no matter what heads i get

they arent all that huge of valves....stock TW and TH heads come with 2.02/1.60...the intake is only .03" larger

You know what they say

Speed cost money! .... How fast do you wanna spend?

You ask if those heads would be too much for your setup. Might be or might not be. They do sound like they would really move a lot of air.

It is important to know what you want from your combo.

If those heads move a good bit more air than most of the typical street combos then you will have to have a larger cam than most typical street combos.

If the above thoughts are true, then it would seem to me that you will end up with a car that might be more suited for the strip than the street.

If you are going for the wild thing type of combo you will maybe need to upgrade inj's, tb, maf, and such to take advantage of the big heads & cam.

The pcm will not be happy with a combo like that and that is a fact.

Again if this is gonna be a 1/4 mile only kinda thing then those heads might be just the ticket to very low et's.

well it is definately not a strip car at all. i do plan on doing injectors and larger maf too along with a custom cam. i will slowly collect parts over the winter so come spring, i will have all i need. it is a daily driver and will always be a daily driver. i have a tweecer and will get her tuned with a dyno (or sell the tweecer when the time comes and just get a chip burned and be done with). a set of heads is my last step on my car. that s/c was just kinda a whim and sounded good but my car will not be blown now or for a long time to come. the vavles dont seem that big if that is what stock is on those heads.

You're right. See, this is why I hate TFS stuff. It fools me too much. All other inline valve heads can't use a 2.050 valve on the bottom end.

Brad, I take back what I said about them being "too big". They still might be, but not as likely now that I completely read your post and see that they are in a TFS head. (It helps to read the entire post ). You're going to "big" manifold for the car if you plan on using those heads. If you can find someone to cam it, the car should be a rocket.

BTW - Do they give intake or exhaust port measurements or cc's? I'd be curious to see what "Stage 3" equals in cubic centimeters...

Talk to who grinds your cam first, however, I can almost guarantee you that you will need, at a minimum, a 30 lb/hr injector.

A thousand bucks can do a lot of things.If you can't find someone with that set up to verify if it will work or not you might as well put that good money into some heads you know are compatible with what you have....those heads are going to cost you alot more to make work than you want to spend ! Just one mans opinion ofcourse.

did you mean to say im going too big on the track heat?? should i keep the street heat i have sitting here? rpm range for the street heat is like idle to 5500 or something. with the 4.10's i think the track heat of 1500-6250 rpms or whatever is best....right??

alright...i figure i wont be much higher than 320hp absolute max with this combo and a custom cam and i have been told from about 300hp to about 340hp is good for the 24# injectors. i will definately start to look for a track heat and get rid of my street heat i have. i have every single gasket needed for this along with every bolt (got an intake spacer too with longer bolts) needed for this job because i wanted to fix my valve springs anyways. i think ill be completely ready with every neccesary add-on needed when the time comes which isnt too many. just gotta make sure i can time a dyno along with my install so i dont try and screw around with anything on my own with the tweecer. still kinda curious if many dynos know of the tweecer or if it should be sold before so they can burn a custom chip and be done with it. i said i will be done for a very long time once the new heads, custom cam and intake go on (gotta pay off school and all).

do you really think a TFS-R would be needed or a track heat would be good enough??

If you are gonna be around the 350rwhp mark I would move up to 30lb inj's for two reasons.

1. 24's will be at the limit and 30's will have some extra room to grow.

2. The Pro tuner can adjust for good drivability with the larger inj's.

Your last question about if the dyno shop would use your Tweecer or burn a chip makes me think either way you will not be into self tuning and if that is the case why not sell the Tweecer and use the money for a go-fast part that you will use.

With those heads and a bigger set of headers, I'd look to be making ~350 RWHP and still have the car be 100% streetable and emissions legal.

Those heads move TONS of air. You're going to need a manifold that does the same. Don't get caught up in the RPM specs that the manufacturer gives - they can be worked around with a good camshaft.

No no no. Vic Jr? TFS-R? PORTED Holley? Those intakes are HUGE! Say good bye to anything low down and it will throw you back into the seat at about 3 grand. You will need a gear for sure!

Im running(or will be running) a holley intake with a set of TFS twisted wedges with a Fox Lake stage 1 port job. Thats no where near what you are talkin about though. Its all going to be brought together by a Jay Allen custom cam.

Stop all this opinion stuff....email the Pro's that know what will work and how it will work.

Not so fast.

Cam timing changes the car's powerband, not the intake manifold. He won't need anymore gear either - a 4.10 is plenty. Jay is probably going to tell him he'll need bigger headers too. According to your theory, he'll lose even more low end? I doubt it...
