I made a challenge and need some help....

Ok, so i was telling my best friend, (GM born and raised, Honda mechanic, lover of most things cars, familiear with what the LS1 F-Bodies can do) that my car, bone stock, with a good driver, on a good day, at a low atlitude track, is capable of high 13s.... He finds it hard to believe.... So, i said fine ill prove it to you...

He's not an arrogant, ignorant prick, hes quite the opposite, very knowlegable(went to wyotech), been my friend for 6-7 years, and is actually very helpful with giving in put to what i want to do(im not that stupid myself) and he likes to help me "defend" against imports, though he can appreciate their effiecient way of going quick...

Requirements are these, i must run it like it is now.... like in my profile... street driven weight, no suspension mods, power mods, no DR's or slicks, nothing....

so, i need some suggestions, besides practice, to help me on my way....

as stated in my sig, ive been to the track only once, Bever Springs, and ran a 14.67 with a 2.0 60'

Now Beaver Springs is said to run up hill, and supposedly, you should take .3 off your time. So HYPATHETICLY, i ran a 14.37.

Now, this spring/summer i will bet hitting the strip as much as possible, but this time a "real" one, Maplegrove.

OK, one question, tell me if this is true or not: Ive heart that .1 off your 60' is generally worth .3 at the line.... is that true?

my goal is a 13.90, for now. on more than one pass(consistency=practice, i know) so that i can prove that its not a fluke....

with practice, if i get my short time down to say a 1.9 or 1.8, will that be enough to get me there? all im looking for for now is .5

Thanks guys,

:hail2: :SNSign:

I think it is quite possible for your car. I ran a 14.2@98 with a 2.3 60', on bald all-season radials, in my 99 5 speed coupe. It was a cool fall day, but traction was a problem. With a better 60', obviously, the ET would be better.

If you can, practice on your current tires until they need to be replaced, then get something for the rear that hooks better, maybe BFG KD's or something. Your trap speed should be near 100mph, so if you can shift fast enough to get it up there, you'd have a better chance of lowering your ET enough to hit your target.

Shoot for getting that time at the end of summer. You won't have much luck if you think it is gonna come the next time you visit a track. Your progress will be faster if you aren't trying too hard.

Lower the rear tire pressure to, say, 20 lbs., and do a few runs. Then lower the rears to 18 lbs., and see if it makes a difference on a few runs. Remove the factory silencer and air filter housing, and just run an exposed K&N. If you start getting close, put the housing back over the filter, and see if it helps or hurts. Stick the silencer back in to see if it helps or hurts. Experiment and practice, basically. It is possible, on a good day, for your car to run high 13's, with decent tires and a decent driver, IMHO.

I ran a 13.99 completely stock at Maple Grove so you should be fine. Just give it a little more practice. I did alot of practicing on the street before I went to the strip. Just find an empty road and practice working the clutch and gas together. You'll know when you get a great launch.

Ask if you can run the track from the 1/4 trap back to the tree... :D

Yes...a tenth off the 60 is good for 2-3 tenths at the other end. Go in cool weather but not cold. Play with the air pressure...my best run in 50 degree weather was with 20lbs in the tires.

That night i went to the track i had my 315's on, and even though they were only like $110 a piece, they actually hook really well on the track. I started out with street pressure, about 35#'s. then i went down to 25. i think thats the lowets i went. might have gone to 20, i dont know. but i also removed the right headlight, thought i'd try it... oddly enough, my best time came with it in right before i was ready to leave the track. i had about 1/4 tank of gas if i remember corectly.
