I need a huge favor please!!

Guys, I've been on here for a long time now, and I need some help. My wife has my Jeep Cherokee and she wont give it back. I've been trying to make her my ex but she isnt helping at all. I have a key to the Jeep, but she lives in Chicago, 3 hours away and she wont tell me where she lives. I know she manages the Barnes and Noble in Orland Park. If someone lives around that area all I need is for someone to see her leave and see where she lives so I can send out a tow truck to take it for me. I'm sure to you this sounds like some stalker thing, but Im legit. I'm asking for help. This is really getting old, and I need this car back so I can sell if before I move to Texas in January. She has cheated on me, and even started excorting behind my back. I dont know what else to do. I'd hire a PI, but I dont have that kind of money. I guess if this doesnt work, I'll have to do that. Just out of curiosity, do you have the plate number / vin? if so you might be able to get the dmv to run it and find the current address. Is it only in your name or both? are wherever you guys from a community property state? just a few questions that might help me help you out.

if its in your name, report it stolen during the hours she works so the cops will know exactly where to go look..~! they will prolly impound it if your not present..

Id say just find a hotel around there, and take a friend with you, spend a weekend there. And wait for the car to show up at barnes and noble, hop in and and drive home, have a friend drive your car home.

Im guessing she knows where you live? Make sure she cant do the same.

Stolen was an option and I actually called the Chicago PD, but they asked who took it. Once I said wife, they said no can do. Its a joint property state so its half hers so she didnt steal it. And if I lie to the police and they help me recover it and it turns out she had it, I'm in big trouble. Long story short, I cant claim it stolen. As for going up there. Its so difficult because I need to get the time off work, know her schedule, find someone to go with me and then spend money and lodging and lots of gas. This way if I knew where she lived, I could get it on my own schedule and not the small window of when she is working. I tried it once and I missed her by one hour. I called and she was there so then I drove up there and she was gone already. 6 hour round trip for nothing.
By the way, Im doing the heater core in my Mustang, and its a mother f'er. I had to remove the entire dash assembly, and that is actually the fast way. The book calls for 5.5 hours, and most likely that is if you know how to do them. I just got the old one out so back out to the garage to hopefully finish before dark. PEace

then goto the place of work on a day off and ride it back! i mean you and a buddie could take a long weekend on a friday moring go drive there and bring it home and put a boot or the club on it!

When I went through my divorce, the "ex" got one vehicle and I got the other. Luckily I got to keep my mustang. I'm not a lawyer, but, I see it as the vehicle is considered gone..unless she has other means of transportation to and from work

No, I can take it and there is nothing she can do about it. That will leave me with the truck, the Jeep, the Mustang and my Vespa and her with her collection of shoes. What is she going to do, take me to court and let the whole world know she started escorting?? Please!

Maybe.

Regardless of circumstances, the divorce court will award her at least one operational vehicle. More than likely, it will be the one that has the highest blue book.

You never said if her name was also on the title or the registration. If it is, she has the same right to that car that you do. If it's not, then all you need to do is wait for the registration to expire. Without having her name on the car, she can't register it, can't sell it, can't get a new title for it. If her name is on the car, no tow company is going to tow it for you.

If you DID get it towed... then what? You going to have it shipped back to Cali? That would cost more than you taking a trip to Chica to pick it up.

if it's YOUR car, In YOUR name, just take a 2 day weekend, take the train to chitown, and get it, if it's in both your names, just give it to her and be glad she's not going for your mustang, or truck, or vespa,or the house and dog and all that

I feel for, honestly i do.

But cheating on you and being a hooker, more than likely doesn't give you a right to everything you guys owned.

Besides, what happens if you take it, and she reports it stolen?
When you land up in court, you are going to be the bad guy.
No court is going to reward you 4 cars, and her none.

From what i've seen from people i know that have had nasty divorces, having the same last name, makes everything easier on her. She can likely still prove you guys are still married, thus can screw you and your credit.

You are correct in the assumption that you can just go take the vehicle or at least in Virginia you can. I'm a Deputy in Virginia so I know a bit about law. However, when you go to court they could very well award her any car she wants. Wise idea would be to put all your vehicles in a parents name or something like that, as long as both of your names are not on the title. I feel for ya man but get you a lawyer ASAP and get the ball rolling.

yes, i would transfer the titles/reg to a close relative or even close friend until the divorce is over. do you still have the title at your house? can't you legally sell it to your parents and then have them report it stolen?
