i need a new plan and some hope

it is a sort of rattling noise, sort of like pinging but not really, coming from the engine. i know what pinging sounds like, believe me, and this is not the same.

it was loud enough that i could hear it over the wind noise with the top down at 60-70 mph.

sorry, that probably doesn't help much, but i do not know how else to describe it.

you may want to pull that upper intake and take a look to see if the oil is getting into the #8 cylinder through the intake manifold. If not through the upper keep digging. It could just be that you didn't get a good seal on your lower intake gaskets and they are allowing oil into the cylinders.

1/2 quart every 200 miles (approx for one tank of gas) is excessive.

With those compression numbers it has to be getting in there either through the intake or heads, and based on the spark plug descriptions I would center around that #8 cylinder.

Have you thought of dropping the asking price or putting OBO after the $3k. Your situation may require you to take a small hit in order to get started on the project. I don't know much about SC or the cost of one but isn't $3k right up there with a brand new unit:shrug: .
I re-arranged the pricing for it. Now the blower by itself is $2500 and the other stuff is available seperately. If you buy it all, you get a discount.

Maybe that will work ...

i'm sure it is getting in there from the intake. my upper intake has a good amount of oil in it and it is even in the throttle body and the CAI

Well there are only a couple places that the oil can get into the upper.

Have you already tried to remove those from the CAI and the upper intake and cap them off to prevent a vacuum leak. Then run both of those into separate cans of some sort and run the motor. IF you can secure your new catch cans and go for a drive as it may only happen under higher loads, high RPMs, shifting, etc.

I recall you checked PCV valve and all of the other stuff before pulling the blower right?

all the evidence i can see indicates that it is coming through the pcv valve.

to test it, i used a clear plastic tube going from the pcv to the intake and it was coated after a few days. i also used a more rubbery hose and it started "sweating' oil after about a week.

someone suggested a while ago that maybe my lower intake didn't have a splash guard on the underneath side where the pcv grommet plugs in, but i didn't feel lik going through all the trouble to take it out to look at it, so i still don't know about that. geez, now that i'm not driving it any more, i might as well take it out.

i guess i could try a new pcv valve, but the one i have seems fine ...
