If you just drive around and race sometimes the Nitto 555 are your best bet.

I just got some Nitto 555RIIs and I swear by those for any more serious action. Local AUTOCross competition last weekend I got second place in my class.

If you want cheap you will have a hard time with the 295's.

you could run 275's for cheap but anything over that width is going to be spendy.

I love my BFG kdw-2's but there again they are going to run you $800 or so.

I couldnt agree more. I just got a set of 265/35/18 and 295/35/18 BFGoodrich KDW2 from tirerack.com. So far they're great tires in every aspect. Dry, rain, cornering, straight aways, they're real tough to break loose. I got all four tires for $904, which included the shipping charges. Check out tirerack.com and read the reviews about them. I thought they were the most bang for the buck in the sizes I wanted. 295/35/18 can be hard to come by if youre not willing to spend some money.

I'd have to say to go with BF Goodrich KDW or KDW2's! Never had the nitto's but i'm sure they'd be right there w/the BF G's

I really like my Hankook Ventus Sports. I have them in 275/40/17 on the back and they hook really well. They were only $111 shipped from Discount Tire Direct. You also might wanna check the Sumitomo's from Tire Rack, they arent expensive and are nice from what i hear

discount tire doesnt list 555's in the size he wants for the rear.

in 275/40/17 the 555's are $166, $16 more than the drag radials and ALOT more than the hankooks.

Maybe that's why your run 14.0@104... J/K I couldn't rate the Hankooks, ... haven't seen them.

Honestly, I may not be the best person to take advice from, unless you are an extremist when it comes to tires. When I go autocross, I change my street tires, Nitto 555RII 275/40/17 (R Compound race tire rated at 100TW) for some HOOSIER DOT RACE tires that last just under ~100laps for about $1050US.

I can say that out of the many tire types I've tried, the Nitto 555 are highly recommended for all around use. Very good price for the kind of tire you get. Azenis 615 are great as well, but don't last as long. I got about 5000miles out of mine vs 10000+ on the Nitto 555. So there is more value in the Nitto 555. I can also recommend the Kumho MX. Good traction, and good treadware.

The 555RIIs - which are light years ahead of anything on the street - are the most impressive to me. I've gotten 4000miles out of them right now, and they should be good for another 4000 from the looks of it. I've gone through 2 weekends of autocrossing with them (Hoosiers are toast for the season)... and they seem to take the beating as long as you cool them in between runs. If they become to hot, they loose composure and start loosing chunks along the way. But these tires stick SO much, I make modified S2000s look slow at AutoX.

yeah my trap is really far off from my ET I know, that was on the crappiest set of falkens I have ever seen. I expect much better next time out with the hankooks. I'm a college student who drives my stang daily 50-100 miles a day so cheap is good :-D

If you plan on taking it to the track I'd get a diff tire like MT's over the Nittos. I have Nitto 555r's and couldn't cut a sub 2.0 60 foot to save my life.

Wow you must hit the track on a bad day.

555RIIs which are not even DRs (stiff sidewalls made for roadrace) and I'm cutting 1.9s left right an center.
