He has a 1987 Grand Marquis with a 5.0. The problem is when he starts it cold it goes to the high idle. After the high idle comes down to a low idle and you put it in gear, when you give it gas to go it hesitates and dies. Then you start it again and it is all good. This only happens the first time you start it when the car is cold. It is fine after that. Any ideas to get him off my back? Thanks!

I would check the TPS and the IAB on the throttle body. But if it only happens once and it drives fine afterwards then maybe he needs to let it warm up more. Still shouldn't stall though if cold, how many miles on it?

it has 90,000 on the motor.

clogged injectors not giving it enough gas?? i'm not sure, did you try pulling any codes?
