I need some help identifying spindles

I have a 1965 Mustang that I'm converting to a V8. It has power steering and uses the drum V8 spindles with a disc conversion. However, the spindles I got from ebay have too big a hole for the tie rod ends to connect. The tie rods are basically loose in the spindle hole. My guess is that they are from another year, but I don't know which one. Here is the Ebay page, the guy clearly says 1965 Mustang http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8024649384

I have an old bent spindle from a car I know is a 65-66 mustang. And they have subtle differences. Obviously the biggest is the size of the hole for the tie rod ends. Everything else fits fine. The wheels are on the car.

So my big question is if I need to find a correct set of spindles, or does anyone know of some tie rods I can buy that will work? Keep in mind I have power steering so the left tie rod set is different from the right.

Thanks in advance! :nice:

Not sure if you're out of luck. I would imagine there are tie rod ends that would work but you would want to make sure the rest of the geometry is the same as a '65.

What is the ID of the bottom of the tie rod end?
Just for reference I have a '69 and '70 set on the bench.

'69 = 1.545"
'70 or '71 = 1.585"

Note those are with a dial caliper so they are not exact.

Shoot, I'm at work :(

I measured when I was working on them yesterday, but didn't write it down. I'll get the measurement tonight. Thanks for you help so far :)

OK, I've taken down a few measurements and casting numbers:

ID for the bottom of the Tie Rod is 1.53125""

OD for the top of the hole in the spindle is 0.5"
OD for the bottom of the hole in the spindle is 0.5625"
So the taper is a difference of 0.0625"

And of course those sizes are too big for the tie rod shaft that needs to fit in there.

The casting number is C60A-108F 121 Although I couldn't read the last letter very well. I think it was an "F" though. I'm going to try to find some more info on that number if I can. So far I haven't found anything.

Thanks again for all your help

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I found Mustang Steve using the link Protowrxs provided above. He is very knowledgeable and told me my spindles are '67 mustang. I'm going to get some '65 spindles from him. And the Ebay dude will take back the '67 spindles since he had it all wrong
