I need to clear 1.6 roller rockers!

I have a set of FMS 1.6 rollers and all of the valve covers I've looked at you have to run an intake spacer. I have the spacer but I dont want to buy and repaint another hood. I heard you can clear the stock covers by seeing where the high points hit and beating them with a pick hammer. I had rather not make the covers look all mangeled just for a set of rockers that i got for free. So anybody that knows what i could do about this please gimmie some suggestions. Thanx!
