That’s exactly the rest of my line of thought. It’s not like the RTR Mustang is going for a land speed record with all that power. It’s all for the show, and highway gears are going to make a cheap 5.0 work harder to do the job. But I usually try to avoid excessive tire spin, so I ask.

He runs 2:73's in his fox though which is like 350hp. Its a basic crate engine of some sort. The RTR is a monster. Grip and power. Couldnt imagine driving that thing. The reason is cause it will rev out too fast with a low gear, so It doesnt give you a lot of room in between gears. Its too "rampy" like if you mash it, with 4:10's while spinning its prolly just like whaaapp, boom youre at 6k rpm in an instant vs a 3:08 will be slower to get the wheel speed/rpm up giving you more ground area to cover before reaching same rpm. It seems it would be easier to manipulate in drift. But there is a line between hp/torque and gearing. Ya it does make it work harder per say, but your also spinning less rpm to do the samething.

Just my thoughts and how i think about it. Im used to the 3:73's now, but curios how it would act with 3:08's.

You know, i was checking out to see if road racers ran a welded diff/spool. Some do. The trans am circuit back in the day 20-30 yrs ago used to run spools or whatever. There is still a ton of grip and it doesnt break loose on dry unless i really try and hit a turn like a racetrack. Thats like momentum sliding which is fun, right after apex im on throttle trying to break it loose and hold it out for a second. Doesnt take power b/c ur naturally.on the edge of grip Vs like a "faint entry" (swing right, then left clutch kick if needed, break tires) clutch kick drift initiation.

The momentum is dangerous on street, you need to know ur car, b/c if you go too far and it understeers (ie: wheels are turned but ur sliding straight on the front tires lol) it aint gonna be pretty if you have nowhere to go.

I learned how to drive and not drive from Bo and Luke Duke, and re-runs of the Rockford files. Sliding that much (Drifting) on dry pavement just feels wrong. But dirt, gravel, snow, ice and even hard rain are similar fun.

I understand not wanting to run out of gear too soon. I duplicated the slippery when wet sign in the last hard rain through the first three gears before I lifted for fourth. That was on recent, A traction rated all season tires. I think my rear suspension could use some updates for traction, but it might be fine for drifting.
