Ok, had it three months now and like it more every day. First Mustang I have ever owned. I've had lots of Detroit iron over the years and some nice German stuff (BMW/Porsches/MBs), this is the best combo of retro, go, handle and looks. I was around when the Shelby GT-350s were developed (had a new GTO at the time!) so maybe that is what grabs me about it - retro. Anyway, other than the clunks from the driveline, no complaints!!

I agree with you, best overall Mustang Gt ever. Luckily parts are out there to fix all of the shortcomings when we can afford them. If the car was perfect, it would be out of my price range.

I am a car nut, so I tend to obsess over these things. This is my first Ford, and the first Mustang I have owned. I have to say, I am very impressed; going on about 8 months of ownership.

I read the car blogs everyday and go through phases where I think one car or another would be the best thing ever, then I drive the mustang, and no... the mustang is pretty damn near perfect. I think the only thing that might be better is a 2010. I just saw the specs for a 2010 SMS mustang, and that will probably be my fascination for the next few weeks.

First, its a Ford. And though I denied it when I drove Volkwagens and Toyotas over the years, it is nice to have some patriotic pride in your car. Not only that, but the petigree of Ford, and Mustang, is unbeatable. I can drive my car with pride into ANY situation, be that a snooty private golf club or a biker bar 50 miles outside town.

**side note - my wife has this snobby friend. She is a great gal and we like her a lot, but she was raised in very wealthy circles and sometimes lets her guard down and reveals the true snobery of her ways. When I bought the mustang, she said "A what, why in the world did you get a Mustang?" Then a couple month later I had to pick her and my wife up from a party, and before she got in she was like "wow, amazing car." Then she got in and was like "Can you make it go fast, I want to go fast." Totally changed her tune once she actually experienced the thing.

Second, the mustang seems to be the perfect balance of performance. It handles great around town. A Lotus will beat it around a track with only half the cylinders, but thats about all a Lotus can do respectably. The V8 has such a smooth broad powerband that it can be a silent cruzer, nimble autocrosser, or balls to the wall beast depending on your mood.

It can seat four in a pinch.

It looks amazing.

It sounds amazing.

Its affordable! (relatively)

Really, there is not a better car out there (for the money). The Mustang, by being the smallest most nimble muscle car, is the best balance of performance you could want.

GreyDiesel, +1. It's a car that will give good MPG is you're easy on it (29-31 mpg highway 60-65mph). If you drive it easy, it's just as doscile as an econ car, but gives you a warm/happy/nervous feeling when you really get on it.
Repair and maintenance is on par with any other vehicle. Above average durability; how many other cars out there can handle another 100-150hp with thier stock engine internals and trans? The exhaust tone is unique being both muscular when pushed and classy at cruise. GM 5.7-6.2, Dodge 5.7-6.1 and great engines, but they all sound the same be it a truck or car...run of the mill sound. One of a kind interior that is not trying to be luxurious nor sporty, but only giving you what you need at easily accessible locations.

I honestly think it's the ONLY true musclecar available today. If you own a GT, you don't look like you're lacking in the bulge or experiencing a mid-life crisis. I get excited every time I get to drive anywhere. I don't have to worry about scraping the front facia going up driveways, I can seat 3 others if needed, it will fit in most parking spots, decent trunk, and only need 87 octane.

I love mine too. Probably my favorite car to date, but I'll always have a soft spot for my first car, a 96 mustang GT.

Had mine over 2 years now and I still get excited everytime I drive it. This is my third Mustang and by far the best. I'm 54 but don't feel like an old fart when it comes to my car lol.

I've had mine for almost 2 years now and still feels awesome everytime I drive it. My wife and I always had plans of restoring and resto-mod'ing a 67-68 Fastback, but when the 05's came out with the new bodystyle we were amazed. But thought we would never be able to get one. Well a couple of years latter, the 93 Mustang GT was sold, the Boat was sold, and we were the happy owners of the 05. This has been by far the BEST Mustang that I have ever owned and best of all, my wife loves it! To all those married with children guys out there, "If momma ain't happy, nobodys happy!" Which makes owning this car even better!!!
