i run a 16.8 now...

Its got plenty of oil, i check it regularly, the oil pressure does act funny. Sometimes it will be 1/2 up the guages, sometimes its 3/4 up.

Most of the time its 3/4 though.
I maintain the car and take care of it, i just hate looking and sounding so fast when in reality its not.

Plus up at highway speeds the car lacks power, i mean one time i was cruising home from vo-tech school and my friend in his 95 v tec civic was going to pass me. I was going to floor it and not let him pass, to just play around. He approaches and i drop it in D and floor it, he passes me easily. I am like **** but yeah it sucks ass.

I want to keep it and make it fast, i just dont want to be 1.5 seconds behind everyone else.

well what can i do. I have about 300 to spend.
I bought a longblock from a 93 a while back. The guy who sold it to us is a good friend and machinist and he also looked over everything and we need like 2 new pistons ( might as well get all 8) and then once cyl needs sleeved. which is like 70$ on top of the machining of the block itself. then i need to get the heads worked.

But we are getting him over here soon with his other 5.0 motor. He told us we will take it apart and i will get the best of the two motors. I believe that his other motor is a forged piston year. So if i am lucky all 8 forged will be reusable. And he also will trade me blocks if his is better.

Worst Case scenario
need to buy 280 rebuild kit ( comes with 8 hypereutectic pistons)
block machined 75$
sleeving one cyl 75$
also heads worked

Good scenario
he has good pistons i can reuse
and a better block
so i would need a 180$ rebuild kit
and then the block machining for 75$
and heads worked...

also should i just get the stock heads refreshed or should i save next christmas money for some gt40s or thumpers???
how much is it for stock heads to be recond???
what are the chances his pistons will be good??

but urs is a manual....

if it was an SI with dohc vtec u would get smoked in ur car

but a sohc civic aint **** haha

maybe you could try bending the arm back on your aod? or something

buy a new tranny, get a loan or something

and never.... ever...... EVER trust stock gauges..... ::nonono::

mines AOD and his civic is 5 spd with sohc vtec.
I was like NOOO

the lever thing, we have done many things and we conclude that the inside it was put on wrong, so we are going to drop the pan and see if we can fix it.

That AOD is what makes me mad, i hate the AOD, i want a 5 spd

Dude either sell it or fix it. If you love the car like you do, then fix it. Putting gears in it is like putting a brand aid on a major cut, it works for a little bit and then your back to it bleeding badly. If your going to do something do it right. Save up some cash and either get your engine rebuilt or do it yourself whatever you can do. Getting your engine rebuilt as stated is like getting a new motor, so yeah it would be a big diffences to what you have now. Fix the cable for your tranny, and either do a manual swap or get a better AOD rebuild. Then when that is all said and done thats when you look to get your rear either rebuilt or a new one with the gears. Until then stop driving your car so much, your hurting it even more. I'm not trying to be an a hole or anything but its a Fix Or Repair Daily your going to run into things like this. If you can find a cheap good cond. manual sell it then and buy the manual. Best of luck for whatever you do :nice:

if i were you id look for a better deal on a 302 i looked for like 2 months when i was 16 for something that fit into my price range and found one for 50 bucks complete including the whole serpentine belt system and all the wiring, you just gotta find someone who has a nagging wife who complains about the junk in the garage, lol.

you know, its just a machine, its not like your car was made retarted.
Youve got 2 major problems and one minor;
your engine is on it way out, your shifting if ****ed, and tall gears arent good. Honestly, fix the tranny first because thats your base problem, then build from there.

Your car is not slow because you have an automatic. It's slow because you have a POS motor that needs a rebuild. I like 5-spd cars more too, but come on. Don't worry about changing transmissions, or even gears for that matter, when your motor is hitting high 16's. Thats stupid. Thats like, "Hey my car needs a fuel pump because it's running like ass, but hey I just bought a shifter!"

If your short on money, go on ebay and look for a used 5.0 in solid condition that someone pulled out, and get it. Drop it in, and be done with it. Stock parts are so cheap used, it's not even funny.
