I think Ford can find a problem now!

I have taken the stang in twice for a noise coming from the rear end when turning into parking spaces or just doing anything to the left at low speeds. I told them to check the differential clutches, lube the brakes lines and lube the suspension/chassis back there. Every time I took it in they find nothing wrong and can't duplicate it. Well NOW at 30MPH and less there is a noise coming from the rear end/drive shaft that sounds like a flat tire. I can feel it in the brake pedal too (pulsating). Oh yeah, and that other noise is still there on left hand turns.

I'm so mad! Anyone know what it could be? Brakes possibly?

Check your wheel bearing on your right side. When you are turning left, the right bearing will be loaded, if the bearing is bad, you will hear it then. this should correct your turning problem.

The other one, I don't know, I will try to look up some stuff and get back to you though.

finally

heh, i have the very same prob. Never knew how to describe it but it sounds the same as what you have. I raised the car and tried to create the noise but to no avial. I think my junk has just worn out though, after 107,000 miles...

Is the fix a do-it-yourselfer or a take in?

Sounds to me like an Axle bearing has shelled itself. Thus the flat tire sound, and If your brake pedal is pulsating it probable is letting the rear rotor/drum wobble. thus pushing brake fluid back to the master cylinder giving you the pulse. If it gets bad enough the axle will cut itself into, wheel comes off. Better find a independent shop that has twice the work it needs to look at it. He won't need the extra work like a dealership and will give you a honest opinion. meanwhile I wouldn't drive it.

Do you have traction control? My friends '00 GT had a bad sensor for the T.C./ABS and it had the same symtoms.

I owned a Corvette with Positraction. Posi started behaving badly (growling on corners) following an expensive lube and oil at the local Chevy dealers. After reading up on Posi, I realized some dufus could have used standard hypoid axle grease with no modifier. I took the car back to Chevy and said, "drain and re-fill the axle with the correct stuff". The service adviser balked and said I didn't need to...finally he relented and did as I asked. After servicing the axle, he presented me with the bill and I presented him with the receipt from doing the same service a month earlier. 'Nuff said other than this time it was done right!

I have the exact same problem on my '04 with 6500 miles on it. It has been doing it since about 2000 miles. Every time I turn to the left into a parking space or onto a street it does it just like what you described. I also notice it when letting out the clutch and driving away from a stop.

I don't have the flat tire noise you described but I am going to take my car in soon and see what they can come up with.

Ok, took it in. After 3 service techs, the 3rd younger guy heard the noise. The "flat tire" noise didn't happen but the other one did. The cable slap sound when you stab the clutch is normal. He also said he has no idea what is wrong and why it is making that noise. They told me to bring it back at 35,000 miles before the warranty is up if it still occurs. The young tech told me that it possibly might be the clutch packs in the rear end but he wasn't sure how the T/C worked. One guy (dunno who he is) said that the T/C off button has to do with ABS. I told him he didn't know what he was talking about but I left anyway. It's documented 2 times now and the guy told me he couldn't document this and they were chalking it up to being "normal". Buncha BS if you ask me.

That was happening in my car about 5k miles after i installed 373 gears and had forgot to put limited slip additive in it. I put some in and in a few hrs noise was gone. i was told it was the clutches sticking at low speeds.

Yeah, they told me that sticking clutches would be more pronounced.

Yeah.....my 02' GT does the turning into a parking spot thing......it's kind of like a knocking noise coming from the rear.

I've taken it in twice and they couldn't tell me anything either time. They said that per my description of the noise sounded like normal "gear rollover"......WTF is that?

I don't know a lot about cars......but I think they tell you stuff sometimes just to get you to shut up.

Anyway...I'm not going to worry about it. If something seriously screws up then they will have to fix it. :D
