Well I got pulled over monday for speeding, but i got out of it since my friend had a card to help out (the cop took it away). So i bought him lunch.

So today i'm driving down the road and i hear a slight knocking noise in 3rd, then shift to 4th and no noise, then shift to 5th and its that damn noise again. Downshift to 4th and nothing... then upshift to 5th and 2 seconds later BANG! I pull over and stop, then put it in 1st and the car made some nasty metallic noise. Pulled the phone out and called AAA. So its at the shop now, and the mechanic said they'll check it out. BTW, i had it rebuilt last july (WC T-5).

I've never powershifted the car, drove it pretty nicely normally but a month ago i got 3.73's and i've been beating it lately. So i duno, probably gona cost me alot this time.

Something inside may have just plain ole come loose too. The sounds of parts rolling around in a tranny is a bit disconcerting. hehe
gear wheels and things just dont "come loose" plus if that was the case a manual has no filter so they are going right through all the gear wheels....

I know exactly what happened. You input gear is more then likely sheered off. The reason that is wasn't making noise in 4th is because 4th is a direct drive 1:1 ratio gear and doesn't use the gear that is broken. I only say this because I have a tranny sitting in my garage that the same thing happened to.

For replacement you can get the a tremec t5 which is the same as the 93 cobra tranny. It will reuse that same bellhousing and everything else. Ibought mine from http://www.ddperformance.com/ they are great guys and helped me out a lot. You can also go with another tremec trans but like you said you will need a new bellhousing to go with it and that just adds money. It all depends on how much you want to spend and how much power you have in your car or plan to have in your car.

I replaced. I get the tremec t5 when i did it. Everywhere that I talked to either wouldn't do a mustang t5 or wanted $1200 to do it. I only spent $1000 on the new one. It was real easy to replace it.

sqeeeg: where did u get yours from?

to anyone else: i'm looking for a good price on a new T5z, anyone know where to go?

D&D in Wixom michigan, they always have Cobra spec T5s or Z spec T5s for around 1000-1100. Cobra has 3.35 first, Z trans has 2.95 first. Ive seen plenty of "rebuilt" T5s fail because of poorly seated snap rings that come loose and allow gears to walk off their shafts, improperly installed blocker rings or reused parts cause early failure of rebuilt T5s also. I run a Cobra T5 on slicks and N2O for 3 years, and have experienced no failure. Download the T5 service manual for free from TTC.com. If youre gonna pay for a Tremec, dont waste youre money on the low end transmissions, get a 500 or 600 TKO
