I think I jacked up my thermostat

OK here it is start to finish.

I replaced the thermostat last spring to see if that would fix my heater. Didnt work.

1. Replaced the the thermostat to see if it would fix the heat issues : Did not work
2. Replaced the heater core: Did not work
3. Checked all of the wires hoses and anything I could think of that may be the problem: No heat still

Well I remember when I replaced the thermostat I was going off the Haynes repair manual (I kick myself for ever buying that) and it told me that I needed to ensure that the thermostat was in the open position. Well I did that and I pulled on it some to make the slider go to the open position. My questions are on a NEW thermostat, Did I have to do that? Did I pull it too far? Did I break it? Did I jack it up?

I think you jacked it up. when you put in a new thermostat, you don't have to mess with it. I think what the manual was trying to tell you that the "open position" means that when you place the thermo in postion you will be able to see that it indeed open. when properly placed you will see the the thermocouple.

Agreed. but I dont see how you destroyed it. those springs are really stiff. LOL but if you used any tools to try and "open" it then you proly did do some damage.

also make sure your pump is doing its job.

Water pump is Grand that was replaced long ago and is working fine.

I did not have to use tools to pull it open I did it by hand. I will try another tstat first then go from there I guess.

toss it in a pot of hot water it should open. Take it out it should close close.

The problem is I think the thing is stuck open but I will try this and see what happens I am so sick of dealing with these heater issues.

it would have to be in wrong or broken for it to keep letting the water thru.

I will take it off this weekend, I dont have time during the week. I am looking at Saturday to do this as of now.

I hope it is not, I have tried everything but the actual replacement of the controls. I am scared of the price of them. I need to goto the J/Y soon and see what I can find.

WIDE TEH FK OPEN, I released the tension on the spring and am boiling it now with a new one to see if it will still function properly.

Well the new stat is in, the old one looks functional but I dont trust it and at 4 dollars I think the new one will be fine.

I see temperature for the first time on the guage in a year. I will see how it heats when I go to work tonight

BTW did I mention the huge freaking screaching under the hood now?????? Seems that the A/C pump is not rolling like it should with the belt. The a/c works fine though. I turn the heater/ac control off and it stops then turn it back on and well screaching again.

Not ssure exactly where it is coming from but it is in the Heat/ac portion.

bad a/c clutch? mabye getting close to a siezed compressor?

How do you check out the clutch? The A/C works great so I dont see why it may be close to siezing

It does sound like a clutch problem. Reman A/c compressors with a clutch is expensive though.

If it is the A/C clutch dying, simply unplug the electrical connection at the compressor. When you use the "mix" portion of the heater control it runs the A/C compressor so as to keep it in good running order in the winter. I did this on my 89 untill I fixed it. It has been unplugged on my vert for almost 2 years. Un-hooking this will not affect the heater operation
