i usally have no problems with it besides annoying gear whining. but when i put the car in reverse it made a very unhealthy noise, only when i put it inverse, and i know its the the gears in the rear, i know the diff between them and the noise is defintely coming from the trans. if it is on thw way out should i rebuild it or just get a new transmission?

Mine makes a horrible noise in reverse. I'm starting to wonder if they have straight cut reverse gears. i know they have no syncros on the reverse part either.

Does it grind going into reverse? If so thats normal. Reverse doesn't have a synchro, so wait a sec before you engage the gear.

That`s true, but theres a trick. When you want reverse, shift into first then go to reverse.
It gets rid of that grinding sound.,try it and you`ll see what I mean.

Is it just whining, or is it a grinding-type noise? It could be your throwout bearing.
