I want shine!!

I wash the car with car soap, use a clay bar, then use meguiares deep crystal polish, then their gold class wax. I have used many of the wax's and polish's mentioned and this gives the best shine that I have found for a black car. won many car show's and alway's getting asked what I use

BS. I have NEVER heard of ANYONE recommending regular dish soap to wash a car. That sh1t has harsh chemicals/acids in it that will ruin the clear coat of the car.

youve obviously never been to an actual detailing site that uses products not found in your local pep-boys.

when doing a full detail (includes claybarring, polish/sealer/wax, etc), its recommended to start off with dish soap like dawn, to remove road oils and whatever is left of the old wax. then hit up with claybar to do the rest. then you move into polishing (i use Optimum Polish and Compound) with a PorterCable or the like, going from coarse to fine pads, then hit up with a sealant (i use Optimum Poly-Seal), and afterwards apply your wax (Natty's Blue ftw).

you only need to do the above every few months. otherwise you can use a standard carwash formula the rest of the time. the only time you want to use dish soap to wash is if you intend on doing a days work of detailing, otherwise you leave your paint and clearcoat unprotected from the elements.

Why wax before polishing?

I wash the car, clay-bar, then bring out the PC and polish with a cleaner polish, then wax.

I'm new to detailing, so forgive me if I'm wrong, but I've never heard anyone say the phrase "wax then polish"

you dont wax before polishing. polishing is used to get rid of swirls and imperfections in the clear, wax is used to seal the deal. polishing after wax is like dry humping with your pants on. just keep doing it how you are doing it, youre doing just fine, might want to throw in a sealer in before the wax.

BTW Stangless, just ignore these a$$holes. I have seen your car, and you can make that b1tch SHINE!:nice:

BS? Go to Zaino's website and read up there. I personally don't use Zaino, but it IS one of the better products out there. Here, I'll save you the trouble, and read #3 below:

ZAINO APPLICATION TIPS
1. Because Zaino Show Car Polish is optically perfect (99.9%) The optimum results are achieved by using over wax free paint.
2. If you are looking for the ultimate paint surface preparation. Use Z-18™ ClayBar first or skip to Step 3.
Zaino Z-18™ ClayBar was designed to remove airborne contaminants, paint overspray, water spots, rail dust, industrial fallout, diesel fuel & catalytic converter residue and any other bonded surface contaminants from paint. All cars even brand new factory paint has airborne contaminants... Here's the deal. The non-abrasive Z-18™ ClayBar will remove any surface contaminants from the paint finish and not hurt the clear-coat. The ClayBar will get that paint finish smooth as glass. Now remember waterspots, bird droppings and bug guts if left on the paint finish for any length of time, will etch into the paint finish. The ClayBar will also remove any store bought waxes....
I recommend you use my car wash (Z-7) as a lubricant for the ClayBar. Just make sure to keep the surface area lubricated while using the ClayBar. Use 1/2 capful of Z-7 Car Wash to 12 ounces of water. I use a spray bottle for the mix. Shake it up and spray the area to be Clayed. Just make sure to keep the surface area lubricated while using the ClayBar.
3. I would definitely recommend you remove the wax buildup on your paint. Just use Liquid Dawn (hand dishwashing liquid) as a car wash. It has a high alkaline content which cuts right thru carnauba wax, paraffin, silicone oils, etc. This will get your paint finish squeeky clean and wax free.
I don't advise making a habit of washing your car with Dawn. But for this scenario it's fine. High alkaline products like Dawn are tough on polishes. It will never harm the paint finish though. A car wash is made specifically to clean without removing durable polishes. ALSO, Make sure you remove any water spots, before you apply my products. Because Zaino has no abrasives or harsh solvents it will not remove water spots or stains. Z-18 ClayBar is great for removing any paint surface contaminants. Re-wash the entire vehicle with Z-7 Car Wash immediately after the ClayBar
Cleaning Process.

Also, go to autogeeks and autopias forums and read there too. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Dawn, used once or twice a year to do a FULL strip of all surface products.

And before you call anyone an a$$hole, maybe you should:
1. Not avoid the profanity filter, lest you get a vacation.
2. Ask if that particular person, in this case me, if I actually KNOW Stangless first and am just giving him "gas." The answer, if it concerns you at all, is yes.

Good job, you found ONEg company that recommends using dish soap:rolleyes: . I guess you'll jump off a cliff is Zaino says so, because Zaino is God:nonono: .

There's a reason companys sell CAR WASH SOAP. Compare the chemicals. You will find that dish wash soap is MUCH more abrasive. Do what you want, I'm not going to use that crap on my car.

BTW- how was I suppose to know stangless was your friend? Sounded like a flame comment to me.....

You obviously don't understand that you only do this once in a great while, if that. At most, you're only going to re-do the entire polish/wax process twice....and most likely only once. It isn't like you wash with dawn every time you wash the car.

And yes, Zaino is one of the top rated products out there. I don't use it personally, but I have in the past. Sal knows what he's talking about, if you've ever looked into it at all. Is he "god?" No, but he has far more knowledge than you or I.

Go to autogeek and autopia (those are the only two worth while to read on anyway), and you'll find the same thing: for a total strip of all old products and garbage off the paint for a fresh start, dawn is fine. Many, if not most people who post there are professional detailers.

Abrasive? Dawn? No, not even close. Explain how dish soap is abrasive please....Now of course, for weekly washing I use Poorboys super suds.

But, believe what you want. I'll believe what I've done personally and what people in the business recommend over what you tell me anyday.

If you use it once every blue moon, it probably won't hurt the car. But how many of us only polish/wax our cars once a year? I polish/wax mine every month. So if you use dawn 12 times out of the year, I bet it would add up....

Brother, you're missing the point entirely. You ONLY use dawn for that once or twice a year when you want to fully STRIP everything and reapply anew. No one strips and reapplies every month....at least no one I know of. Other than that, you use your regular, favorite, car wash soap that doesn't strip the wax/polish but rather protects that.

I do though reapply my polish once a month (I use Jeffs Werkstatt atm) and then reapply the sealant (Jeffs Trigger), then a regular coat of Natty's. I don't dawn it every month, and haven't actually done so since I changed product. Other than that once a month of the reapplication of polish/sealant, I wash once or twice a week as necessary and reapply a coat of Natty's.

I believe doing a full reapply once a year is recommended, but each month certainly isn't. I don't believe I said that above anywhere either

This dawn thing is getting out of hand but I have to add 2 more cents. My father owns 3 autobody garages and has been using dawn for probably the entire 40 some years when preping and detailing. I've used it countless times on so many cars. Just as that one dude is amazed that people use it, I'm amazed that people don't or have never heard of it. It's not a weekly wash just like a claybar is not for weekly use. It's a tool you can use or not. In my opinion it's safe when used as directed, just like all the other products used as directed. I think we should leave it at that.
BTW can we gets some pics of the car now that your done?

sorry guys, this sunday. was soo busy. i mean like we went to churhc then went out to eat, and didn't get home till like 2:30 then i had to mow. and go to see some ppl before school so i ran out of time. I am off on wensday, and if i'm not just drop dead tired from cc then i will try or if all else fails i will get it done next sunday. BUt it will happen. and i just can't wait till i get her cleaned.

Ohh on a plus note. i was talking to my dad. and he has a guy that is on his race "team" that he told aobut my car and what i wanted to do with it as far as performance, and the guy said bring it buy next time i have the chance (wensday) and we can talk. This guy is a good racer. and a great machanic. he has worked numerous times on my dads race car. and the coolest thing my dads engine was gone when he got the car, and this guy completly rebuilt it in less then a week. it broke friday night at the race, and it was ready to run the next friday. with an small bore added, and about 450 rwhp. its the third fastest car on the track.. but hopfully that means i can get some power under my hood.

youre only supposed to use dawn or dish soap to wash if you intend on claybarring/polish/waxing the car. otherwise once you wash with dish soap you take off all the wax and sealers and expose the clear to UV rays and sunlight and the elements. once you harm the clear youre doneski.

weekly basis, i use a standard car wash formulated soap (i wanna say Mothers but not 100% sure).

lets reiterate: the use of dish soap is only recommended if the next steps are re-application of polish/wax; otherwise standard car wash formulas are recommended.

BTW- how was I suppose to know stangless was your friend? Sounded like a flame comment to me.....

hawaii has a population of 27, everyone knows everyone :D. but thanks for sticking up for me :nice:.

like thomas said, you only use dishwashing liquid when you want to fully strip your old wax, and are going to immediately reapply a new coat to protect your paint.

I polish/wax once a month as well. I just didn't want people to think it was OK to use Dawn every time they want to re-wax. Sorry If I was a dick...had a rough week.
