I want to go faster

Ok, I have to ask, WTF do beanie babies and baseball cards have to do with salvage yards dedicated to fox mustangs?
I think you been hang'n around facepage too long. You come here and say that the fox mustang is not at collectable status like you are an expert. So what are your credentials that make you an expert?
Ok lets say you are right, then why does Haggerty (and many others) offer insurance for it? Oh yeah, it's 'classic car' insurance not 'collectable car' insurance. Or is it?
Seems to me you are the only one that is in disagreement with the 'collectable ' status.

If you had reading comprehension never said they weren’t collectable don’t take what you want out of what I said, actually read it. I said they aren’t valuable or are at the bottom end of what’s valuable in the collectable car world. If you guys think 10k is a a lot of money then I got news for you

so yes they are collectable they just aren’t valuable, YET!

I am sorry to any humble New Yorkers that I may have offended. Nothing like standing in line at the Outback listening to a bunch of geniuses carrying on about how everything needs to be done their way. Everybody is stupid , but them.

Knowing that I sometimes do have a reading comprehension problem I went back. Post 33 first paragraph. BAM!
But you did say later in the post that it may be at the bottom on the collectable list. With that I will agree. As far as being valuable? That is a tuff call, I think it has more to do with region than anything else.
And maybe I got my panties in a wad over this when I should not have. Maybe I will stop wearing panties and put on some big boy pants. I get a little defensive over these cars.

He is an expert , on everything . Hes from the great state of New York.....Sorry nards , but you New Yorkers move to Florida and ruin this state, and it pisses me off.
Excuse pete, where he is at seems to be a magnet for snooty people. They came to town and the first words out of there mouth was ' that's not how we did it back home'. Not just New Yorkers, not that all New Yorkers are like that.
And I don't understand why Mike is not from NY, but then are we sure he is from anywhere? :jester:

As I was writing this I was thinking of you my friend. You get grandfathered in. You will probably deny it , but you are what I call an automotive genius. Say whatever you want.
He is only a genius in the world of BMW, around here he is just CarMichael Angelo.
Among other things.

Uhhhh..I don’t know...While not “ Genius level”, it’s not everyday you find somebody willing to cut the entire side out of a 250 6 cylinder With a 2” hole saw chucked into a 1/2” drill so they can drop in roller lifters from a different engine, and get it to run...

I’m thinkin that qualifies me as a pretty fart smeller.

I agree you are a brave soul.
Not to be confused with a kia soul. :nice:
Imagine if kia called it the 'brave soul' I guess those hamsters would be really hard to live with then.

Wow! What a thread!! lol

As far as collectibility and value of Fox Mustangs goes, I'll just say that there is a niche for everything. Beanie Babies, as mentioned earlier, is a perfect example. I remember probably 20 years ago when that was all the rage - my girlfriend's mom was spending outrageous money to get this or that specific little stuffed animal. I thought she was nuts, but that's what she was into. And, looking into the automotive world, people thought (a lot still do unfortunately....) I was nuts for sinking money into a Mustang II. But that's what I'm into. Value is mostly subjective.

To the OP: I agree with a lot of what was said about upgrading your car if you so choose. Take care of the structure (sub frame connectors and such), then I'd say build the engine with a known and matched combo, make sure the transmission is up to the task, add gears and a limited slip differential of your choice if you don't already have it, and enjoy it. If you become serious about reaching the 11s, add nitrous or a turbo or supercharger to your new set up. In most, if not all, cases going fast and cheap are never related.

Eric, if you are there, how much do you consider for “on the cheap”? What is your budget for HCI (exhaust, suspension and brakes)?
If you are serious, please do a compression test, a cylinder leak-down test, and a real oil pressure gauge test to see why shape the block is in. There can be a lot of difference in motors at that mileage.
You might be able to have fun with the NO2 shot and be better off putting the good parts on a heavier duty block and rotating assembly.
But with the experiences of everyone here, a budget will really be helpful.
Jrichker has a really good list with the steps towards several goals we can find if you are serious about some direction.

Hi I have a 89 lx 5.0 hatch.. all stock from my understanding want to go fast on the cheap.. I live in chandler Arizona and am new to this forum stuff.. thinking of doing hci with a 150-200 shot but my cars an automatic will it hold up at least a little while? Car has 113,000 miles.. which hci do you recommend on the cheap!? Is the GT 40 setup good for 11s on a nitrous system? So many questions help ! Lol

Rare color combo, buddy had a 5spd one back in the day. The AOD is the biggest POS tranny ever ( IMO). It will take a full rebuild and an aftermarket valve body to make it a player. I managed to go 14.20 with a trans go shift kit and 3.73s on street tires, exactly what my stock 5spd coupe did with 3.08s.

That’s bull. It’s stuff like this that causes so much grief for so many people. The reason you went slow in an automatic car is writing on the wall.
The reason your et sucked is because you didn’t have the converter to move the car, and your 3.73 geared rear probably wasted a buttload of et from tire spin, and you didn’t have a good tire. Telling somebody that they’ll need a rebuild kit to make an AOD survive is Probably accurate, and properly rebuilt, will survive well past 500 ft/lbs. But There isn’t a rebuild kit on the planet to keep a T5 alive at that power level.

The stock valve body config does not like to keep it in second. I have read that the 1-D-1 shuffle your keep it in second engages reverse or OD for an instant, and a forward gear while shifting. Either way, pushing the stock transmission that way was not good, even with a V-6.
Here are some upgrade recommendations.

What's "bull"? I was actually impressed with the 14.20,because the car barely cracked a 14 totally stock. Car didn't spin the tires either, and I never suggested a T-5 swap, was just comparing a stock 5spd to a stock AOD. And Astro perfomance has the T-5 kit on point.
