Aliate X, it looks like you are going to be the winner. We're almost 100% sure it is a MAF problem, the AFM tech told my friend to clock the MAF different, and when we turned it 90* towards the engine it made the problem a lot better, it still has hesitation when getting in the throttle quickly but it's a lot better. Aliate X, pm me you e-mail addy and i'll send you your prize. My friend is going to order a pro-m from AFM and hopefully we can get this thing to the dyno and track next weekend

MAF - mentioned earlier - clean the heated wires with electric parts cleaner - free fix....

I would second this, I had very similiar problems and spent a bunch of money on ignition stuff and alot of time doing this Then just for the hell of it, I thought I'd clean the MAF sensor wires and it's run like a champ ever since.

so is it fixed yet?

I don't want to be rude, but you should know that step one with these cars is pulling the codes. There are far too many possible issues to try and diagnose these cars "old school."
Again, I am not trying to be rude.
The problem is that most often codes are that last diagnostic step people undertake.
Diagnostic codes should be the first thing you do.

Clocking the MAF usually works when there is a tight bend in the intake tube just before the MAF (as with fender mounted CAI kits), or a conical air filter is attached directly to the MAF.
There are other fixes, which may work better, but will be more of a hassle to install.
You did not mention the air filter/maf setup; I am curious?

I think you have other issues, even if clocking the MAF does help a little.

What is your TPS set at?
Is the voltage output of the TPS consistent when you work the throttle?
What are the trouble codes?

I could give a rats @$$ about the $10. Just trying to help.

I'll give it a try.

Can you try and simulate the problem while powerbreaking? If so I'd try and hook up a low amps probe and look at the signature of the coil. If that looks okay I'd look up a scope and look at the ignition secondary to try and see if it is occuring in multiple cylinders or just one. I've fixed a lot of the same situations by just replacing one plug or wire.

At first when I read I thought you had a lean missfire but now it sounds like it is in the ignition.

Codes probably won't help you a bit. OBD 1 dosen't tell you dick. Plus the ECU may not even display datastream (depending of the year of the 'puter).

I'm an ecperenced driveability tech at a ford/mercury/lincoln dealership so I should be able to help you. You can send me a PM if you get stumped.

I hate giveing driveability advice over the net. Especially if someone is having trouble. It is sometimes hard to diagnosis stuff with it right in front of me. If all else fails, replace coil dist cap etc with good known parts.

Also if I do happen to hit the nail on the head don't worrie about the $10.

Just an idea here. I had a problem with my car hesitating and falling on its face at certain times. It turned out to be a dead spot on my tps sensor.I had check top see that the voltage was set correct and everything looked fine. But it just had a spot in it where it wouldn't read correctly. Not sure that thats your problem but something to look at. I went through all the steps of cleaning the maf and setting timing and fuel pressure. None of that made any dfifference but as soon as I got a new tps my problem was solved. Good luck.

Yeah I was thinking of that as well but he said that it was during quick accel. SO that's probably not it. You can test that with a scope or PGM while turning the TPS slowly and look for the signature to flatline.

i would also say tps.the voltage should be .98 key on engine off.now at wot fey on engine off you should have 4.5 volts.just in case you dont know the gt-40p heads take a 98-99 exploder spark plug which have a little longer reach.i use to run those.another thing, since you say you hear it at the top of the iac valve check the tb gaskets.those need a good seal.make sure you have 5 volts to your mass air also.if think of anything else i'll chime in.good luck

Haha I knew it, I had the same problem dude, So many people get this problem with their MAF, people end up selling the cars b/c they cant find it.

I had an issue like this , bad part throttle bucking , changed injectors , MAF meters , replaced every sensor on the car , and turned out to be the distributor , it had so much play in it that the reluctor ring was wobbling when not under full load ......replaced the distributor with a reman one and all was good
