I6 to 408W swap?

Is the 68 V8 front suspension different from a 68 I6 front suspension, besides spring rates and sway bars?

Hmm yes and no. I see you asked suspension, but the smaller spindles on the I6 car will not be sufficient.

The spindles are the same, V8 or I6 that year, IIRC, but the brakes are different. I think it would be very interesting to see someone try to stop that car from a 120+ mph pass on itty, bitty 9" 6cyl drums!
