Ok, on hot days my automatic 94 GT has been pinging in o/d for years. Only by searching the forums did I recently discover this could be caused by aged IAT and ECT sensors. Besides the pinging, my car has recently been running rough when the engine was cold, had a slightly irregular idle (RPMs would dip slightly every few seconds), and (though I could be wrong) I thought I heard it start pinging in all the gears the past few days. So I thought it might be a good time to change out these sensors. I went to Autozone last night and picked up the two sensors for about $32. (Let me know if this was a bad idea) So now I have the following questions:

1. On the IAT sensor, the sensor is in a little "V" formed by the housing, so on two sides you can see the sensor and on the other two sides its blocked by the housing. I read one post that said the sensor needs to be indexed, but which way should it face relative to the oncoming air? When I installed it last night I faced it so the opening of the V was facing the oncoming air, which would blow directly on the sensor. Is this correct? This is how the other sensor was facing (the one from the factory), so please let me know if I need to turn it so the air is blowing on the side of the housing instead of the sensor.

2. The ECT sensor is located right near the distrubor on the 94, correct? I just wanna make sure I didn't replace the wrong one.

3. I took it out for a short drive last night after I got finished so the computer could relearn the engine, because I disconnected the battery to replace the sensors. I noticed the idle seemed to be a good bit higher. When I was in drive in idled at about 750 and in park it was almost 1000. Did I do something wrong? This seems a bit high to me. (I drove it for about 10 minutes or so, I hope that was long enough for the computer to relearn everything)
