Ideas for GT Hatchback

Hello,
I'm curious to see how others have "set up" their GT Hatchback with regards to their stereo system.

Please send pictures as I'm trying to put my amp & speakers together.

Ok, mind you this was done before I owned the car, and I am not a sound system guy so I will give you the best description I can.

Amp mounted to the back of the fold up panel thing. This allows the seat to go up and down freely. The box is my sub, have a mate under it to keep it from sliding around. ( I can't hear the hatch rattle with this set up. A+)

Previous owner had the door panel butchered to place the 8" I believe speakers in the door.

And the 8"-10" ovaly ones back here.

Sounds amazing, and its only an 800Watt amp. I guess foxes have good acoustics... that's the word right?

While not a GT, in my hatch, I just have a couple of those wedge-shaped 6"x9" boxes with some old Pioneers in there. I had the same speakers mounted in the stock location in the side panels in the hatch area (I know the '87+ hatches had 'em farther up on either side of the rear seats), but they just buzzed a lot and had ZERO bass and barely any midrange to 'em. I don't have an amp on them at all, but they sound plenty fine with good enclosures.

If I had some extra cash to blow, though, I'd make use of the wedge-shaped enclosure I have for a pair of 10" subs and then just screw the amp down onto the back side of the enclosure and put it up near the rear seats. However, I don't have a hatch curtain like Lynn does in her Capri to hide the system (can't find one for a four-eyed Fox anywhere), and I don't want to limo-tint the rear because that usually just screams, "Hey, everyone! I'm trying to hide some stereo stuff in here! Break into my car, please!"

Also, because my '84 is my DD I can't justify taking up the entire cargo area with stereo junk - the 6x9 boxes at least allow me to shuffle things around to make more room if needed, and I still have plenty of grocery space even with the rear seats folded up. If I got a major boner for more sound, I might just lay a small amp between those two 6x9's and then plug my other pair of 6x9's in the stock panel holes, but ... nah.

FWIW, Lynn's Capri has a generic no-name brand sub box with a (I think) 200-watt Jensen amp hooked to it, and it actually sounds pretty good, IMO - not overpowering, but enough that you can feel it and annoy old people as you drive by. And it's good enough for the kind of music her and I listen to, anyway (metal, mostly), but if you're into that BOOOOOM BAH-BOOOOOOM bass-heavy hip-hop stuff, then ... probably not what you're looking for.

Haha, Only reason to listen to that stuff is if you have crazy amounts of bass.

If my stock stereo had a CD player, i would put it back in along with the cardboard speakers (if i still had them)

My sisters black GT has an amp and one 10 in the trunk, along with some good speakers and it sounds nice. Nothing over the top, but enough.

Granted our box isn't the most show quality piece (good quality, but just a box for the sub and amp), it does get the job done.

I have a LX hatch and I just took all my speakers out and threw them away, weight savings. I have a 5 switch panel in place of the radio. Bought an antenna delete for the fender. Who needs a radio?
I am waiting on the brushed stainless plate from my neighbor who is cutting it out on his water jet. That’s why the switch panel is kind of just setting there.

I'm just using my circa 2004 Pioneer CD player and Pioneer 6.5 and 6x8 with Blaukunpt 3.5's in the dash... all I need. The stock AM/FM and cardboard speakers made me want to blow my brains out. The stock cardboard speakers disintegrated when I took them out.

I have the radio in and the speakers in the doors and rear quarter panels. Trying to put my one apline amp and 1- 10" JL speaker. This car is more to show car Come out on weekend only and once in awhile comes during weekdays.

I actually have a nice sony deck with a usb flash drive with 100s of songs on and some nice rockford fosgate speakers...... i usually get about 30 seconds into a good filter shinedown or chevelle song i almost listened to a whole drowning pool song i love...... but once again the long tubes won out

In my GT i got a Kenwood Head unit w/ CD and AUX. Still running the stock cardboard speakers! Two 12" Generic Subs in one good looking box, powered by a Rockford Fosgate 500 watt amp. Those subs actually bump really good and the stock speakers will actually hold their own!!! i can crank the **** out of them with no problems and they sound great! I have the Back seats folded down with the box on top of them. Still plenty of room to put stuff in the back and no giving rides to everyone!
