Stats on my car are in my sig.
I was debating on what I could do next to get the biggest power gains. All I have now is an x-pipe, flows, and gears (I know they give no hp). Anyways, originally I was just going to get a timing adjuster, some pullies and make an intake. I ruled out pullies becuase my alternator is already weak (headlights dim when I roll up/down my windows). So I thought to myself, what can I do to really get some nice power gains? I ruled out a supercharger, becuase it really gets expensive after installation and all the upkeep on them. (been there done that with previous car). Anyways, I was talking to a friend, and he gave me a few ideas:
1)Swap out intake/heads for '01 Cobra intake/heads. ~$700-800 for the setup, +~$450 for labor to install (heads, I would do the intake myself) - ~$500 for my stock stuff = Roughly $700 net costs. This setup is told to give ~20+rwhp and 25+rwtq. Our computers are more aggressive than the '01's so it would probably yeild an even bigger gain on our motors. Doing this alone should make my car nip at the heels of 300rwhp.
2)Ford Racing FR500 Valvetrain Kit: I forgot the figures he gave me, but I think it was around $1200 or so. This kit supposedly yeilds about a 25rwhp gain.
3)Extrude hone the intake: I was THIS CLOSE to picking up an extrude-honed intake for $350 shipped, with NO core charge. But I didn't have the money on me right now, and it had to be a split second decision, so it sold to someone else for $450 + core charge. I didn't get much feedback from you guys, but he said he saw this setup net 14rwhp peak, and average 6-8 across the power band.
4)Steeda Timing Adjuster: Ok, so this is a common one, but still...I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a used one. Again, friend saw this mod alone pick up 6rwhp/9rwtq @ 3 degrees advanced timing on a 98 Cobra. I was about to pick up a used one for $60, but the guy never responded. That would have been a killer hp/$ gain.
So with all these mods combined, I would be dynoing around 360rwhp/370rwtq for less then the cost of a complete supercharger kit. It would put a huge smile on my face for my bolt on lowley 97 Cobra to walk stock '03 Cobras.
About the same HP - 300lbs + Live axle/gears.
Anyways, I am seriously considering #'s 1,4. With the timing adjuster and 01 intake/heads I hope to be at the 300rwhp mark. What do you guys think of all this? I am constantly trying to find ideas to make my Cobra faster, and would appriciate it if ya'll share your questions or comments on any of this.
