take a look at my mods in my signature...what should my idle be set at? i have it set at like 750 in rpm in nuetral and in drive it sits at like 650. right now when its in drive and with my cam it seems kinda shakey......should i bump it up to maybe 850 ? what yall think??

jaidedeye,

I've got my idle set to 720 RPM in drive with my Crane 2030 cam to get a decent idle. With an auto you want it as low as possible to get an acceptable idle to reduce tranny heating and creep.

I have a b-303 and my idle was set today at about 600-650 and it seems to run better then ever and it has that nice lumptacular idle we all have come to love! Seems liek the higher the RPM at idle the less lump sound you get from the cam. Also, when my idle was at 750 when i reved the engine, on the rpm decent the engine would hold up for a second at like 1000 rpm then drop back down to idle. Now with my idle at 600-650 it does not do it.

i think the engines are actually designed to hang rpm for a few seconds. with my 1.7 rockers and my f cam i have roughly .545 lift and i think that add that to my narrow lobe sepperation and my duration i need to have my car idle around 750.....ill try it
