Well I got the motor to turn over but it sounds like ASS! The best way to describe is, a ****ed up lawnmower that you keep pulling on to try to start up and dies on you and its 10x louder. the car is making a loud poping noise, it is backfiring, it will not hold idle, and It will revup and die. It sounds real aweful. It would jump to like 3k rpm and dies. I think its the distributor, I think Im stapping it wrong. I stabbed the distributor like 20 times... same result. I put number 1 at TDC on the compression stroke and put the distributor in with the rotor pointing twoard number 1 on the cap. If I advanced or retarded the timing it would not do anything. I have checked the vacum lines and the firing order. It has a new starter, cap, rotor, distributor, coil, plugs and wires. Why wont it idle?

turn the motor over by hand till the 10* mark is lined up with the timing pointer....then pop the cap off...where is the rotor pointed??...also did you remove the spout before doing the timing??

You might be 180 degrees off. Double check TDC.

We would feel #1 for the compression stroke and then put the balancer to 0 on the timing pointer. When we stabbed the distributor I would point the rotor towards #1 on the cap and I did this like 20 times but still no luck.

did you put in a cam with a 351 firing order by accident, if you do not know then what kind of cam is it.

jason

a lot of performance cams have the 351 firing order, they say it is more efficient.
