Good God, I just checked to see how much insurance would be for a 2005 V6 Stang on Geico, with $1,000 deductibles, they want $5,800 every 6 months

Shop around some more, you may find something in the $1,200 per 6 months range. Look for companies that don't ding young drivers as hard, in fact I've heard it said that AAA is very competitive for younger drivers.

Keep shopping you'll find something a little palatable.

When you see outrageous quotes like that, it means that company has no interest in insuring anyone in your age group.

That company is not in your market. Ford is marketing these new cars largely to young drivers, so there is insurance available at a more affordable rate. Shop around some.

Erm... actually... I kind of doubt that...

There is a relatively-simple equation here:

Driver under 21 + sportscar (a classification the Mustang, even the V-6, falls under) = increased chance of crash = EXPENSIVE PREMIUMS

For the record, my mother is an insurance agent...

Can the fella who started this thread get a lower premium? Likely.

Will the difference be substantial? Unlikely.

Hmm. I guess you could go with a liability only policy, but that only works if you don't have a loan as I think most all banks require that you have full coverage. Besides, if you don't have full coverage, you need a pretty fat pocket book when you get hit by some dumbass that has no insurance.

Wow and I thought my insurance was bad. If I had gotten that as a quote I would have had them check to make sure something wasn't wrong with the info they had.

Even though this has been beat to death: Fords primary demographic for the Mustang is not younger people. More older people buy Mustangs. It's a statistical fact. Albeit, they are mostly the V6's.

That can't be right (unless you have a terrible driving record). I just went to Allstate.com and got a quote for a V6 Coupe w/ $1,000 deductible and put in my age as 21 (I'm actually 40 but they don't know that) and the quote for six months is $1,810. When I was looking at an '04 GT earlier this year, I was quoted by Allstate (based upon my true age and driving history) at around $400/per 6 months.

i can insure a new GT with decent payments (150-175 a month), and im not 20 it shouldnt be different for a new 05 GT

When I was 21, I bought an '85 LX 5.0 and while the insurance was high, it wasn't outrageous. I was able afford it working part time and going to college.

Dude...that quote seems pretty high. Did your Mom the insurance agent hook you up with someone to call? If so, she's sandbagging you so that you don't get the car.

Otherwise, you could try different things to lower your insurance. Here in TX you could take a defensive driving course to lower your premiums. Also, if you get an alarm system or Lo-Jack (Sp?) it will also reduce your premiums. Another approach is to get a family rate and get on board with your parents insurance. One final solution is to get a better paying job for insurance and mod money.

This guy must have a horrible driving record, im 19 and i just checked with allstate(V6 stang), $500 deductables, and not on my parents policy...It came out to $1900 , which is pretty high, but it's still not $5000 for 6 months. On my parents policy, it'll only by $1500 for a 6 month policy.

You sure thats not 5800/year?... which is still rediculous...

I'm 22 and got quoted on a GT for 1034 per 6 for full coverage 500 deduct.

You might want to shop around... Allstate quotes me at $1600 semi-annual, whereas State Farm says $700 semi-annual. Uhhh...

Comsidering some of his former posts with such names as, "Wow... Saw a 2005 Mustang Burn to the ground today.....", "2007, the Mustang will have Competition, Camaro is Alive AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", and "05 mustang in a ditch." I think it is safe to say GM Dude is a spy sent to scare Mustang buyers away. Pay him no heed.
