If your under 20, forget getting a 2005 Mustang, even a V6 unless your rich.....

Actually that sounds bogus for 6 months. But sky high rates wouldn't surpise me at all, since Geico are total shiesters, speaking from my own experience. They wanted almost 3000 a year from me back in '98 for a single '98 v6 firebird back when I had been living in the US for just over a year (at age 27). I had zero tickets to my name it should be noted. Needless to say I got a much, much, much better deal after shopping around. Shop around - it's the only way to get a good rate.

boalgf: Comsidering some of his former posts with such names as, "Wow... Saw a 2005 Mustang Burn to the ground today.....", "2007, the Mustang will have Competition, Camaro is Alive AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", and "05 mustang in a ditch." I think it is safe to say GM Dude is a spy sent to scare Mustang buyers away. Pay him no heed.

DavidCroft: Good call. The guy sounds like a doosh bag. I pay 92.50 a month on my 97 Cobra ,which is a 12 second car, and Im 21. $5800/6 months? Come on. Nobody believes it. Also camaro is dead because GM sucks and cant sell cars.

If I was a troll, I wouldn't have been here this long, The Camaro is coming back, you may or may not believe that, but it's not going to be a F-body, it'll be based on the new Zeta Platform, which will share with Buick, etc.

The '05 Mustang in a Ditch wasn't even my thread

The burning 05 GT was a complete joke just to see what people would say, let me guess Boalgf, you never have a little fun?

Let me take a screenshot for all you pollock's:

Doesn't look like I'm a troll now, now does it? This is how racism starts, just because my name is GM Dude on a mustang site, doesn't mean I'm here to start trouble.

And how many tickets did you say you have? Also....a lot depends on your area of residence.....BUT....I just checked with progressive and me, at 20, on my own,in a 2005 Mustang GT, with 3 speeding tickets......was only 2,036 for 6 months....and thats with FULL coverage....and a 250 deductible....

So my tip would be shop around.....they obviously dont want to cover you.

(first post)

There is way around this and you can possibly do it. I have. Of course I am > 21 and I wanted to reduce the premium on my 03 Zed4 further. I have a good rate but why not try to reduce it if there is a way to do it.

Anyhow I have always fancied American muscle cars and a particular 87 IrocZed 3rd gen Camaro caught my eye.
As luck would have it the girl who owned it literally wanted to give it away for free (they are cheap to get though). I put a new battery, replaced the transmission flexplate, did some work under the hood here and there. Anyhow to make a long story short after I smogged it, I went to my agent and put the Camaro as the primary car with liability only. There was no point in taking full coverage as it's KBB value is low.

This put my Zed4 as a pleasure car, in other words the chances of crashing it/putting a claim on a new pleasure car became low. As a result my premium went down considerably. I have two cars under the same policy (with different coverages).

On hind sight I don't regret the decision. The total cost of ownership of the Camaro has been around $500. The mpg are identical but if I drive the Camaro (which has an OD) around 65 mph I get better mileage.

I do drive the Camaro around town or occasional long stretches, just got back from a 1200 mile trip, intend to use in the rain or snow & in the process of adding 10k miles on the Camaro within a year, have saved the same off the bimmer.

This thread is a load of crap. If insurance co.'s think people are going to pay 12k a year in insurance they are on some crack for sure. On my parents policy i paid 50 a month for a new dodge pickup i drove in college. Then when i got the mustang it went up like 10 a month to 60. I have a ticket on my record now but my insurance stayed the same. Looks like you need to call them up and laugh at them for that quote...i dont care if your 16 and want a brand new GT.

I can tell you, having just gone through the GEICO quote system myself, that this guy is full of $*%^.

I lied, saying I was 19, single, no accidents/tickets, and selected top of the line coverage for every single option for a 2005 Mustang GT daily driver...

...and got $4,088.70 for my 6 month quote.

Realize that this is with some pretty outrageous options, like $100k/$300k bodily injury, $100k/$300k uninsured, $100 deductibles on collision and comprehensive, ERS, rental reimbursement, and breakdown insurance.

If this guy bothered to get a quote for a real person and a realistic policy, it would be much lower. With my fictional 19 year-old male single, and exact middle-of-the-road policy, I was quoted $2906.40 for 6 months. Full coverage with minimal options resulted in a quote of $2578.70, which is still high, but... I'm 25, and paying $400/6 months for my '95. Big bleepin deal.

EDITED:

Going through GEICO, entering my real info under a fake ID, I got a quote of $519.90/6 months for full coverage, minimal options. Whee.

While I am not going to call you a troll right now. You may want to look at that pic again. I did and nowhere on it. Does it mention the quote is for a V6 stang. As a matter of fact it doesn't have any car listed in it. Perhaps if you were to reedit the picture to show the whole screen.

That's how much insurance is on every late model V8 on your own name. That's why so many of us drive without insurance.

Perfect driving record, no tickets at all.
:bs: That screeny you posted earlier contradicts this. When you are going to insured under Indemnity coverage that means you have a crappy driving history and are being covered under a probationary plan; whether it be tickets or wrecks. Indemnity coverage is anywhere from 2 up to 4 times what normal coverage would cost someone that does have a perfect driving history.

Sorry man, not buying it.

I got nearly the same amount. But I put in that I had 2 accidents, 3 tickets, and no current insurance. It was thousands less when I put in a perfect driving record. Though still TOO freaking expensive ( about $3500 for a year).

When I was 19 and bought a '99 V6 I was going through progressive on my own and it was just under $450 a month.

Perfect driving record but just young on age. I guess that's about $2,600 every 6 months. It was the deciding factor at the time to get the six over an eight.

$$$

When I was 19 I bought a 2000 GT brand new and insurance was 1800/6months. I had 2 speeding tickets too.

Now the car is paid off I got married, own my own house, it is now 1200/6 months.

5800+ per month is ridiculous! Unless you have a pathetic driving record.

The insurance on Mustangs has went up over the past few months though. But not that much!!
