Hey whats up everyone, I am just getting ready to purchase my first 92 5.0 I am coming from a Dodge Neon SRT 4. Cant say i didnt like it for a while, but i am just sick of it now, i hate the FWD, the 4 cylinder aspect, and everyone and there mother trying to race me. Anyway, the car i am buying is already slightly modified. It has GT40 heads, headers and supposedly a flowmaster exhaust. The tranny feels great, it actually shifts better than the SRT did. It has new tires and wheels and cobra brakes all around. It also has upgraded suspension, with stiffness adjustment. Anyway, the first mod i want to do is put some cams in it, either that, or as ive been reading is maybe getting rid of the GT40 heads since they seem to be somewhat restrictive, or at least, can only be taken so far. If i can keep the heads, that would be cool, but it seems that they arent the best idea unless you upgrade the stock intake and valves. But what type of cams are good, i was looking at a set of comp cams, but i want to make sure i get the right setup. I guess i would be looking for a street/strip setup, but at this point im not sure if im looking to S/C or stay all motor. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

James

Well if you're looking to install any more than one cam in a 302 you're in for a challenge. hehe That's right... welcome to world or pushrod engines. One cam, two heads, two valves per cylinder.

If you've got the funds then check out a Holley Systemax II engine kit or Trick Flow Specialties kit. For instant gratification, look into a blower or turbo setup. Any of those things will put you well over what you were used to in the Neon.

ok but where can i find info on how to match the right CAM to the GT40 heads. I know it sounds dumb, but for right now i just want to get a nice Cam in there to make it sound badass. Im going for the Neon which was a bit expensive a month thats why im getting rid of it. So i just want to do some things with the Cam and then a bit with the exhaust and then im done for a while.

custom is always the best even though it is a little more as far as cam. if it already has a full exhaust why bother touching it?

Get a nice custom cam, a new intake manifold and a bigger T-body and I think those heads will work just fine... and yeah, leave the exhaust if it's already been opened up for ya.

Slightly O.T. at school there was some kid talking about modding some small (neon like) engine. He got real confused when we talked about having headers (more than one), but only 1 cam.

The flowmaster exhaust should be good, but you might want to go to a better x or h pipe (do a search to find which suits you better).

Whats wrong with GT40 heads for now? They're better than my factory heads. . .

Custom cam would be the best, but i think its a little pricey for your combo. If you were gonna go with some aluminum heads and free flowing intake, it might be more of an investment. If you get one now and then decide to step up the combo, the cam wont match anymore.

So basically a Cam would be a waste of money. Id be better off getting a new intake mani and a larger TB. what is a good intake mani and TB to look for.

Cobra or gt-40 is a nice set-up from stock and then the edlebrock and trickflow are another step from there.
