I'm better than you!!!

I hate one upers, I also say my car is stock, I will always say that because I dont need them asking questions and dont need to here the BS of somthing els they are making up. I work with 2 one uppers and It can get very annoying fast. the kid tels me he has a stock ranchero that runs 10's in the 1/4, Then I ask him about it a month later and he denies it, and is like "Not me, I was talking about my friends honda civic" lol Im like yeah right, So I made a little BS flag, When they talk Ill go over to my tool box and grab it and start waving it around just to piss them off. :bs:

haha nibbie thats great, i need to make one of those:rlaugh:

But yea one uppers piss me off and i usually just nod along and agree with them and sometimes if I feel like it ill get technical and realize they dont have a dang clue about what they are talking about.

Damn one uppers:nonono:

Im 36, I have a co worker that is around 45 ish, No matter what story you tell at work he would chime in and say " Thats nothing .. blah blah blah...."

One day at lucnh we all took turn telling stories and we would say Thats nothing...etc etc after about 10 times he got the point.

So lately hes has using this term " That just like.... ... blah blah blah,"

The other day My buddy cory looks at him at lunch time and says do you have to one up every F-ing person in this building Im really sick of it.

The one upper left the lunch room with nothing else to say.

When it comes to "anything performance related" you will always come across one uppers, know it alls, and a holes, just the way it is. Those are the kind of losers that need to get a life.

While I work with more than 1 one upper, the other side of that coin is the clown that doesnt believe what amount of work may be done. When my car was an NA stock long block with used EBAY bolt ons, 373's and Nitto DR's It would run 13.50's at 102. At that time my car was a full weight vert with all accesories still on. There were more than a few guys that had heads and cam top ends and were running the same times. They swore I had more work done than I was saying, but when I try to tell them that there is way more left in their cars they call BS on me. Either way if some one wants to know Ill probrably tell them, and if they takl ***** oh well. I hope to bump into some one who know more than me and wont BS about it.

I have had alot of guys ask me what's done or what's that thing got in it. I usually say it's just a 4 cylinder with duall fart cans or other times I say it's all stock. some look like they believe it and some laugh like they know why I say that. then I just drive away slowly.

even though it is prety much a stock 5.0

It's even worse when they know NOTHING about track times yet ask what it runs.

I agree. People have no clue how fast track times really are. They hear 9s on their forum or something and think anything slower than that is junk. My buddy will tell them his car runs high 11s and they say "oh, that's not too bad". HA! Like you know how fast 11s is?? You know the kid would poop if he rode in an 11 second car.

When they ask "what's done to it?" What they're really saying is "I want to tell you what's done to mine".
What bugs me the most is after I hand someone their ass, then they ask what's done to it and don't believe me! I always tell them "gears and exhaust" which is what it is. I'll let them look under the hood for days and they always insist that's bs and I have something hidden. People just don't know that good running foxes exist.
I think people, as a whole, just suck. And that about sums it up, right there. :p

Hell yeah! You hit the nail on the head!

"I got my own philosophy
I hate everyone equally
You can't tear that out of me
No segregation -separation
Just me in my world of enemies"

Hahahaha man this thread is good, I think we can all relate to the topic. I too have run into many one-uppers. They always ask whats done to the car....i always say just some bolt ons. They always ask what it runs....I always say its slow. Then they proceed to tell me about their sick whip and make up mods that dont exist and storys so outrageous that you just know its a lie. They are fun when you start asking them technical questions about it and their response is "uhhhh". The truth is they know nothing about cars except what they hear other people say or they read on the internet......that and the HP numbers from the air filter and muffler boxes. And of course they always know someone with the fastest most legit street car ever that will smoke you.....yet you never see this car anywhere, they wont tell you who owns it, and they cant call the person to bring the car out and run it.

Got another one yesterday after I made this post. I told him about the shop that tuned and dynoed my Cobra.....which is Alternative Auto Performance, owner Lidio He goes.."Lidio....haha...tell him Scottie says BRING IT. He won't race me, I've got a blah blah that runs 7's, and he knows I will crush him."

I felt like saying, "Listen hillbilly, you are nothing, and he doesn't go for all out race cars. He is a successful business owner who has established and maintained many customers that come back to him monthly....even out of state people trailer their cars to him. He is reaching out to guys with 13-14 second cars and getting them to go a few seconds faster (10's, 11's, 12's with minimal modification and stock-like manners.) GO AWAY!!!!!"

Lidio is a very cool guy....and extremely knowledgable. Met him and Turbo Joe years ago when I ran NMRA.

I love when people tell me what I should have done...or what it needs. I usually keep my hood down and play the stock game...but sometimes I just get pissy and pull up the hinges to 'check' something when they're close by...they usually don't say much about 'should' or 'need' after that. Yup...childish...but feels good.

what about those ones the try to tell you what you have in your car and then tell everybody else what you have in your car when they really have no clue.

i have one of them one upper people around the corner from me and he does that crap all the time. when i went out and bought my bronco (which was already lifted) he went out and bought one that was bigger than mine and had more motor and gear and blah blah blah blah.......... now im just waithing for him to get a mustang and try to one up me again

These 1-ups ppl are irritating! Usually stems from insecurity issues... and not enough breast-feeding as a child.

I just started a new job a few weeks ago and this guy ask me about my Mustang. This other guy chimes in and says "Mustang? What kind?" I said actually, I've got three. I didn't want to tell him b/c I could tell some bs was about to spew, but I said: '68 coupe, '89 gt vert, and '88 gt hatch. His response was "Oh man, guys I knew in high school had those and the only ones that were fast were the "ones with the trunks". I just nodded like yeah whatever, you're funny, asswipe (usually these types will devolge themselves as dipsticks eventually so I didn't say much. I have been through this stuff lots also). The next week he shows up at the office in his wife's VW bug thinking he's badass and asks one of the other guys to go to the store with him for a ride to check it out........pitiful! If you engage these dumbasses in their circular conversations, you'll just end up wanting to kill them and hide their bodies.:D Be cool, remember you're not driving a rice burner.

Good thread.

I used to work for Auto Value as a Partsman and one-up-manship was the norm. Every kid that came through the door would ask whose '67 Dodge was out front then proceed to tell me why their/friends car was better than mine. I did however meet a few good guys through there though who've been very helpful over the years and have become good friends. But to this day when I walk back through those doors the guys who still know me are always dripping with excitement to tell you how great their car is running and how sweet their latest project is compared to yours. It's the downside of our hobby I guess.

HAHAHA!:hail2:

This thread reminds me of my relatives. The day I bought my car, I drove it over just to show them. My cousin pulls his BONE-Stock 95 TA w/100k miles, out of the garage and he sat there revvin on it for about 5 mins saying how fast it was. I just laughed. His OWN father pulls in and says that his son's car will "destroy mine"....this was before he walked over and looked under my hood then he turned to his son and says..."Maybe NOT!!!" It was priceless!
