Front and rear wheels will stick out well past the outer edges of your fenders.

Below is my car with 16x8 w/ 5.25" backspace on the back (255/50R16 tires). 5" is the MINIMUM backspace for a 8" wide wheel, front or rear.

For a 9.5" wide wheel you will need a minimum of 6.5" of backspace.

Ok. That's the Lincoln rotor/Ranger axle swap. That's the swap I did last spring.

You will need to special order wheels with custom backspacing in you want 17x8 and 17x9.5". If you want to go 17x8 all around you can get the '94-'04 wheel which has 5.75" backspace.

Oh yea, tjm73 I remember you helped me a few months ago when I first thought about doing it...If I remember correctly you said(correct me if I'm wrong) that I could run 17 X 8 with 5-1/2 backspacing on the fornt and 17 X 9-1/2 with 6 inches of backspacing on the back????????is that right??

You know I thought this all sounded familiar. LOL!!

American racing's website says it's either 18x8 or 18x10

18x10 might be a REALLY tight fit. I've seen guys run 15x10 weld wheels with 6" backspace and the are totally flush with the fender. I suspect you could run 18x10 with 6.25" backspace and a 285 tire without any severe clearence issues. that will put 1" more wheel inside and outside what I have. 18x10 might not fit very well.

Anything between 5" and 5.75" on the front will work. Onmy car I have 15x6 with 3.25". If you add 2 more inches of wheel to the inside and add 2" more backspace you get 15x8 with 5.25". Look at my pic in the previous post. That's what the outer edge of the front wheel will be in relation to your fender lip.

The backspacing options for the 18x10" wheels make me not comfortable enough that I woud not do 18x10' wheel's. I'd do 18x8" wheels. Let me look at my wheel/tire fitment "calculator". Be back in a minute.

You MIGHT be able to 18x10 w/6.5" backspace with a 285 tire. I wouldn't try it myself.

Just incase you are wondering I base my calculations on some observations I've made from my car and another car I know. I take those observations and put them into a bitmap picture I created and figure out if a combo will fit between the two extremes my observations give me. If it fits inside the extremes, it'll fit the car.

I've been reviewing this and I am about 90% sure you can run 18x10's with 285 or 295 width tires if you have a backspace of 6.25". Anymore backspace and I'm sure you will have inner fender interference issues in the extremes of normal suspension movements.

So 17x8" with 5.25" and 18x10" with 6.25", I think, should work. with 245/40R17 or 255/40R17's on the front and 295/35R18's (drag radials are available in this size)

These sizes will preserve the proper sidewall ratios for the 1" difference of wheel diameter and provide proper width ratios. Or sidewall bulge as I refer to it. I'd do the 245/40R17 BFG Gforce Sport with the 295/35R18 BFG Drag Radials.
