So I went to a chevy show/bracket race at the track yesterday, (yeah yeah I know what was i doing there) FFW is not until September so deal with it. Anyway I was watching the different classes doing time trials yesterday for the final round today and there were a few mustangs that just stole the show. There was a twin turbo notch in the outlaw 10.5 or extreme street class that was running faster than most of the guys in the pro mod category. He laid down one of the most blistering passes I saw all day. 7.23 @ 201 mph. and there was another twin turbo hatch that put down almost 4 flat in the 1/8th and he didn't even have the boost turned all the way up. Anyway the turbo cars kicked ass yesterday and I was impressed. I'm almost thinking I want to go turbo now instead of SC.

if you want to make the best power, turbo is definitally the way to go, but sometimes you cant beat finding an s trim for 1,200$ on corral.

i love my turbo, i used to have issues with underhood heat but i recently put a turbo blanket on and now i can put my hand on the turbo at operating temps! best part is increasing the boost can just be a turn of the dial away!

Yeah, turbos are awesome. They're just expensive and a lot of work.

Off topic, but 88_GT_5_oh, can I join the Jack Stand Racing Team??

the only requirement to join the jackstand racing team is you must sit around your car with a bunch of buddies with a case of beer talking about how fast your car will be when its running

my car does run though, i'm just on my 3rd rear main seal. its going on a hoist tommorow so i can do it again

Ouch. My car is not on jackstands at the moment, but it is 850 miles away in storage until I can go pick it up. Oh how I miss it.

I started in '89 with nitrous and found that after 2 years I wasted money on vapor juice long enough. I went to a Paxton VR4 and ran that for 8 years or so and over the winter built a Twin Turbo. Twin Turbo is so different and makes power with ease and when I want more just type in a new boost number. I was getting 21mpg average driving 75 miles a day and now get 23mpg and make more horsepower. I was spinning the blower just to make up for the 60 hp that belt was costing me. When I start the Turbo now I must let off the key fast or grind the starter. The car starts a lot easier with that huge compressor off the crank.

Well if you like turbos, then you should've been at my house when my buddy walked in and showed me this monster turbo he just bought. It's a Garrett 91mm capable of supporting over 1000hp. He's building a sub-8sec. Mustang with a 409 and a Powerglide... should be ready by next spring.

nothing sounds better than spoolage on some decently sized externally wastegated twins. With a chuga chuga chug on every shift or just 1 big ass turbo to suck in baby elephants and the neighbors stray dogs

Thats cause all the nitrous guys missed their tune-up

I dont know if you ever looked into the Outlaw classes for stock suspension (sometime called Outlaw Drag Radial, when slicks arent allowed) or Outlaw 10.5. But the wiegth breaks vs. engine combos are seriously f**ked up. We got a friend with a 00' Mustang,421 twin turbo Outlaw drag radial car,and he has to wiegh in at 3600lbs Where as our 427 nitrous combo would get to wiegh 2600,BUT heres the thing...

with all the things it requires (working doors,no lexan windows, full interior, ect),you cant get the wieght with driver below about 3000lbs,so there goes your competitiveness, unless you got your combo runing dead on,or are in an 1/8 mile track.Blower cars end up somewhere in the middle.

Now,thats assuming everytihng is working properly, last I knew....well put it this way I wouldnt want $120K+ into a 10 second car that runs a high mph. They get a good run maybe 1 out of 10 times.

Now,thats Outlaw class by what ever sanctioning body. Then you got your local tracks own program, witch is what I plan on runing in,I got a combo thats a few years older, but still a top contender. For the longest tiem though, everyone was supposed to wiegh in at 3200lbs,no lighter. That means that our 427 sbf on 2 stages would have to race a 632 bbc camaro with 3 stages, the affor mentioned 421 twin turbo mustang, and a couple other cars witch really have no buisness racing in the same class. Now they changed it a little, back to when it first came out,200lbs wieght break for small block on nitrous.Well thats just dandy, but its not enough when you got no restrictions on anything else.I can show up with a top alcohol blown Hemi motor in a S/S car and run it,they wouldnt care.No ones don it yet, cause its just to damn dangerious (anyone remeber what happened to the 200mph S/S car in Bradington? he wrecked it as soon as it went throguh the traps, car was TOTALED,guy was extremly lucky to be alive).

In my opinion, these sanctioning bodies need to go over and do some more testing and get these cars runing competitively and more important, safely.I dont care if your 3600lbs twin turbo car can run 30mph faster than mine (at almost the same ET though, lol),at least my car wont plow right through the concret bearreir wall and kill me.

Turbos are fun for your street car,or moderate race car,but I personaly will take a nitrous or a good blower set-up befor one anyday.

(Also,as an interesting note on my opinion,if turbo/blower cars can run intercoolers, why cant nitrous cars use a differant fuel in a seprate tank for enrichment?)
