Got my door blown off by a Mitsubishi Eclipse the other day. I don't know what it had in it, but it was making a weird noise. Maybe a turbo or nos...all I know is I was in 4th gear and he ran right past me. He was behind me in traffic, when the light turned green I went like normal, and by 4th, he was passing me. Not much I could do. I'd love to know what that guy had under the hood.

I get blown away all the time by people passing me at 30-40MPH that i am going while i'm cruising in 5th.

Was is an older eclipse? Those GSX's and GST's can be pretty damn quick cars.

well depending on which Eclipse it was this can make a lot of sence actually. The mid 90's eclipes has a GS a GST and a GSX the GST is turbo FWD and the GSX is turbo AWD. Both GST and GS weigh shortly upwards of 2700lbs where as your sporting over 3347 lbs.. W/ a substancial after market down pipe eclipses gain 2-3psi. including a flowing cat-back. It's not that hard to make rice rockets w/ potencial fast, now if it was the newer V6 eclipses, those are sleds u shoulda smoked it

My friend has a 90 talon (same thing really as eclipse) and it trapps 114 (24PSI)...and it was all jacked up and blowing out the spark in 3-4th. Im thinking @ 30PSI he could easily go over 120 in the 1/4. BTW he can easily turn it to 30.

But my friend has an aftermarket single turbo (like a 60trim) and different pistons. Otherwise its just exhaust work. (stock heads/cams/intake)

Anyways dont worry about it, those cars can be made FAST for CHEAP.

I wasn't racing the guy, just took off like normal shifting around 4K. When I saw him overtaking, I stepped on it. By the time I reacted, it was probably too late.

It just surprised me, b/c most of the ricers are all show.

umm yeah. not suprising. coming from a dsm background, the 90-99 eclipse/talon/lasers (in fwd turbo and awd turbo trim, not the ****ty non-turbo crap), are by far the best car with the "money spend per power gained" ratio.

the 4g63 motor alone, without touching ANYTHING, can handle 23-25psi, and roughly 400-450hp depending on tuning. now stick in some arp studs and a better head gasket, and it can handle 30psi and 500hp with the right tuning.

i had a 1997 GST Spyder. the only reason i dont still have it, is 400hp+fwd=worthless, and the awd swap was out of my realm of abilities. mods included:

Evo 16g Turbo @ 20psi
SBR Cast Manifold (Ported to match turbo hotside)
Custom FMIC + Piping (By me)
550cc Injectors / 190lph Pump / DSMlink for tuning(the laptop program thats basically standalone)
intake / turbo-back exhaust (3")
act 2100 clutch kit

on the freeway, in 3rd gear, as soon as it reached 20psi the wheels just broke loose until they heated up so much theyd finally catch, and by then i was already in 4th and at about 115ish(3rd gear tops out at 105mph). the car was stupid fast, from a roll. from a stop, well, lets just say the car was fwd, and 1st-3rd were useless in anything over 1/2 throttle. i remembered cruising just to find LS1's and GT guys to tangle with, just so see their faces. and i did, many times, all of them met "yeah, its fast, but its still a 4 banger", some people are just sad. the saleen guy i raced one night, got so pissed after 3 runs and 3 losses, he went into oncoming traffic, after i had hit the brakes and coasted down to reasonable speeds, just to prove he is more "hardcore" or something.

then i got the stang and realized that even though the eclipse was way faster than my stang now, the stang is just so much more fun to drive, and even the ****tiest exhaust on a stang sounds better than the best 4banger exhaust. and getting sideways with a slight blip of the throttle owns.
