First of all, the 3650 is a very strong trans. Sure it's noisy and some have poor shifting but it's one of the strongest trannys ever used.

As for the idea of "switching to Mobil1" that's what it has stock fromt he facotry and it shifts like ass.
Use Royal Purple Synchromax and it helps quite a bit. An MGW shifter helps a lot too.
That's much cheaper than a swap.

The 3650 can handle over 400hp easily. You'll break clutch parts and axles before the trans if you know how to drive.

Alright, I was wondering when someone would chime in and say that the tranny is not weak LOL....I have seen that 3650 send mustangs into the low 10s before it broke, so its pretty strong. About the noise, mine makes almost 0, and mine shifts really good and I never hit a brick wall with my Pro 5.0. Only time I miss is when i let off the clucth too fast. But if your set on getting a new tranny, I would go with a viper spec T56 for its amazing strength (has proven itself in 1000HP cars) and its .50 6th gear. Through in some 4.10s or 4.30s and you would be well into 5th gear in the 1/4 with 400RWHP. And to CRZYHRSGT I go to 115 MPH @ 5800 RPMs, but man your right about 5th....just gave my cousin a ride the other night and ran up to about 123...it just sits at about 115 for a sec and then slowly pulls over...took FOREVER...but atleast we dont have to hit 5th at 100MPH like the 4.10 guys do.LOL

Stangpro....I have similar probs with my 02 GT (3650) and just ordered an MGW shifter. Hopefully this helps a bit...I'm told it will make a nice difference. Does the Royal Purple Synchromax really make a difference? Is it sold anywhere? Autozone, etc?

You can go to their web site and find a dealer near you. Also, Red Line trans fluid works great too. I have have good success running both. Both help "quite" the trans, but I'm not too concerned about gear whine/shift noise...

Thanks. Good to know. My shifter should be here this week. I'll check around for the fluid. Thanks.

why do you think the t-56 is such a hard swap? tranny, clutch, shifter, drivline mod, crossmember mod. same as any tranny swap. I think you have to do some of the same stuff for the 600

all the parts are availible. It is what I would do. anything other than a t-3650 is going to be a swap of some kind and require some swap mods.

I can understand the price argument but I would like to have usable gears. the gear reduction between 4th,5th, and 6th make all the gears more usable. now you could order a 600 with a closer ratio 5th. I have the t-45 but hate the drop from 4th to 5th. 1.00 to .67 is too much.

I would take a my t45 over the 3650 any day

my buddys 02 has had his 3650 rebuilt 4 times within 15,000 miles

he eventually swapped a t45 no problems

seems like the machs and 05 3650s are doing ok so hopefully they fixed it

TKO switch. im pretty sure its the same for the 4.6, i did it in the 5.0.
I needed 31 spline shaft, from the drive shaft (40$). A 26 spline clutch disk (128) i just got a whole new clutch. and you'll need the bell housing (170).
The TkO 600 (1600-1700) has 2 models one has a lower 5th gear ratio, the other is called the road race version with a higher gear i think its .68 and the other is .89 i think im not sure.
WEll worth it

With 3:73 gears 4th is good to about 110, then you hit 5th and it falls on it's face. I understand the point of a cruising gear, but not in 5th in a muscle car. But hey, I guess I should have saved up the extra $10G and got the Cobra then all would be happy. Pretty sad when there are more Volkswagens coming with 6-speeds (6th being the true cruising gear).

When would you be still accelerating at 110 MPH - on the street? Please get to the track before you seriously hurt or kill someone.
Do you feel that more gears will make you faster?

^Well in the 1/4 mile the 6spd would prolly hurt his performance due to the higher drive train loss and the higher gearing of 1st. But not all racing is done from a stop - 1/4 mile, so for a highway race it would help as you could hit 5th if need be and still be pulling strong....i wish i had a 6spd for that same reason, SOMETIMES....my friend with the 02 SS said he was able to hit 140 when we were racing...I had to hit 5th and only got to around 125 and then i gave up...it takes to long and the longer I hold it the more likely it is a cop will come around the next corner LOL or the more likely I am to get into an wreck. Thats why he wants a 6spd...im guessing. But I keep telling myself that 115 is PLENTY to see whoose faster, and how fast do i need to go? 125 is about all I have EVER been too in the 04.

I've never crossed the triple-digit speed threshold, nor do I plan to on the street.

Yes, on the street...with me and only me there. I'm not one of those morons that blows by you going twice as fast as you are...that WILL get someone seriously hurt or killed. And as far as the gears, I just think that 5th doesn't have to be such a dead gear. If need be, throw a 6th in there for cruising and shorten up 5th so you can get more use out of it.

I can really appreciate the honesty, but here you go again, bringing back the argument that drag racing isn't always done from a standing start. Yes, when done legally, it is.
Street racing is just dumb. Jesus, dude, how old are you?

I to was getting fustrated with my tr-3650 but after switching to havoline with dexcronIII-atf it got better also dropp the level, i put in 3.4l. then i got my mgw shifter and that made it even better. But recently i think i found the real trick. WARM IT UP! 5-10 min. before driving, especially if its the first start of the day. It acts like a new tranny(at least mine does). Something to do with the hot/cold viscosity of the fluid and making it easier to shift especially 1-2 because those synchros are brass and the rest are carbon? just what i heard but i did it and it worked! try it!
