I have encountered this before at an accident scene. It shut off the fuel supply. It was in an Escort and the reset button could be reached way up behind the glove box if I recall. The car had been rearended at another accident scene I was attending when the girls driving behind were looking at the first accident and nailed them right in front of me.

I think what you need is some kind of accellerometer that detects accelleration in all directions so the belts lock in tight corners, heavy braking, bumps, etc. like the regular inertia reel types do. You also have to remember that those belts were probably controlled by the airbag system as well and were meant to snug up in a millisecond as the airbags deploy

Its an inertia switch for shutting of the electric fuel pump as a safety feature. Mechanical pumps stop when the motor is off, but electric pumps will continue to run if the key is left on. If you have a crash and are unconsious, the fuel pump will continue to run w/o this switch and can cause a fire. Most people install these when going with an EFI conversion and some with electric fuel pump conversions.

The fuel inertia switch. It cuts the power to the fuel pump in an impact. It takes quite an impact to set them off. In a light hit it may not lock up you seatbelt at all. I dont know if you can make them anymore sensitive than they are. But it might be worth a try. You can find them in the trunk of most ford cars from the late 80s to the late 90s. I dont know if they still use them on late models. I think the trucks may have used them but not sure on that one.

that is my original plan, i already have the 2 axis accellerometer and my buddy has it all packaged in a little box. we can program each channel from
-1G to 1G ...............i think we can trip it in a couple milliseconds.....

we are set to bolt it into the car, put a scope on it and see what kinda forces i can create..................where we do this is yet to be determined

so, what kinda G's are generated under your scenerio???? what kinda G's do y'all create at a track in corners, braking, a accelerating

i did a quick thumb nail calculation and don't think that my car can create 1G accelleration when i stomp on it but i don't know............

any idea of what the G's are if i stomp on the brake????

Let me put it this way, A formula one car can gererate 1G on the skid pad. You would be pretty hard pressed to do that in a mustang without breaking free. I think you would want the belts to lock at about .5 G's. Cruising they would be free, but any lateral or foward/ back movement would give you security. As far as vertical is concerned, any bump that can cause your coffee cup to bounce out of the holder is close to -1G and can lift you out of the seat momentarally causing loss of pedal control in extreme circumstances.

The shut off in my escort gt was in the hatch on the pass side behind the plastic panel.

After I reset the switch for the second time I let the juckyard have what was left.

Mustangs Unlimited I believe is where I bought mine. It is a factory ford part and if you have an electric fuel pump it is a must have.
