Import Rant...

So I like all cars and I'm not biased towards brands and all but Ive never been into imports because of the crowd that it attracts. I'm sure most know what I'm talking about but its usually a bunch of younger people that don't know anything about engines and cars in general and they think bolt ons give then 20 hp... :bs:They also obsess about cars with the 2jz engine and turbos ... Most of these people play too many video games and have told me that their car is stage 3 or stage 2. I dont know wtf that means and most of them don't know either.
Anyways, today I was at a car show and I saw a gtr skyline. I wasn't sure what it was for sure because I've only seen them online and I know they are illegal to import until recently.. or something like that. So to be sure I asked this guy looking at the car and said "Hey what car is this?" He then looked at me like I was an idiot and said Its a skyline in the most sarcastic like way. He looked at me like I just asked what 2 + 2 was. He then noticed it was a right side drive car and he freaked out like a child and said "this is so JDM"... I was like this is why I can never get into imports... The local car meets here are full of guys like this that I can't seem to relate to so I don't go and therefor never learn anything about imports...

Any one else understand what I'm saying?

Uh....unfortunately I see the same type of people at all types of shows/meets, both domestic and import. You just have to find the right people to talk to. I find I have the best conversations at race tracks, whether it be drag, autox or road. I don't really go to meets that much anymore. It helps that I have friends with similar interests in cars and racing. I can just hang out with them.

I agree my good friend and I go to meets he is into Hondas so he brings his 93 civic (I'm building the turbo motor for it now) and I bring the stang. My car is home brew custom stuff not pretty but nothing is done from a bolt on kit. Gets ignored by import guys, they just want to talk about helliflush (some stupid stuff here the tires look like they are about to break off the car.) And stare at car that have a 2 liter sized exhaust tip and runs 16s in the quarter mile. Then they start the :poo: talk with me, which I kindly ignore. Then they find out I'm the guy they came to see about building there 1.6l engine.

I never will understand how those kind of cars got so popular for racing. I know you can make them fast but with the same amount of money into foxbody, or any other american v8 you could really make some serious power. Don't get me wrong, I do respect anyone who will put the effort and work into building a car how they see fit. I think one of my gripes I have is most import guys just slap a bigger turbo on and call it a day. I guess theres nothing wrong with that, it just seems that for most of them that's all they know. :chin

I like them, I can truly appreciate a clean car regardless of make. I think Nissan and Subaru make some truly impressive cars. There are true asshats on both sides of the fence. Just find a group of people that you can get along with.

so very true. idiots will be idiots regardless of what kind of car they prefer.

I have had (and still have) imports and domestics. Specifically on Honda's, one thing I've learned is the reviews are true when it comes to no to low end torque, and all the power is in the high end of the rev range. Question I have is do they really make the power as advertised? My second car, a Honda fit is supposed to have 117 hp. It just does not feel like that much is there, despite only having around 33,000 miles on it. The car's not exactly slow, but back when I was young cars had less hp numbers but felt quicker.

I see a lot of imports at the road course but they are good guys that don't talk a bunch of #@%&. See those goof balls with their tuner stuff here and there, I tell them they should bring it out to the track, they say they want to do that but they never show up.

I like all kinds of cars. My good friend is into Hondas but doesn't have all the knowledge to build one so I helped him out. I did all the internals and he made all the pretty stuff (he's good with a rattle can). Hate too say it but these are designed well. 20160117_171612.webp

Yeah its old and been neglected, they used to have a lot of races there but obviously did not put much back into track. It's under new management now and they say they are going to keep making improvements. It's close to home and reasonably priced for track days. There have been rumors about it's future, I sure hope they keep it going.

I think its because suspensions are getting better. In highschool I had a stock 95 gt and my buddy had an 06 rt challenger. My car felt faster but his would always win in a race. You just dont feel the speed the same way in new cars.

Same here. supposedly this guys s2000 with a turbo runs 11.9 but I dont believe it.. And of course he never wants to go to the track.. And then theres the guys that have vw golfs and focus st's with tunes that they think can beat my car but they never go to the track to find out because "fwd cars dont hook up well".. Im like look at my baby ass tires on my car and I have one wheel spinning and Ill still beat you! Those guys annoy the crap out of me sometimes...
