Improving ride quality (if possible)

I have the H&R Super Sport springs along with Bilstein shocks and struts and my ride quality is very harsh compared to stock. I didn't know that lowering my car this much would make me feel every crack and dip on the ground. I have no intention of taking off these springs because I love the look, but is there any add-on whatsoever that can improve the ride quality even slightly?

the only thing you could try is to run an ajustable dampner and hope that it helps.

I have read that the tokico Illuminas on setting 2 or 3 will ride nicer than the bilstiens.

you would want the fox body struts. If you go wo MM website they have the part numbers listed.

other than that there is really nothing to try if you are keeping those springs.


stock stock ride was so soft/crappy it spoiled me a bit. I wanted a car that road like that only acutally handled. I think to do that you need to go with a spring with less drop and these cars need all the drop they can get to get rid of the 4x4 look.

tokico illuminas adjusted to 3 are probably needed, like hognutz mentioned to get a ride you like, blues may be a little soft for the rate of you front springs that is why illuminas would be needed to have enough dampning in the front.

i've heard from just about everyone that Bilsteins provide the best ride quality in whatever situation?

Maximum Motorsports website says:
"Bilstein’s unique deflective-disc valve design instantaneously self-adjusts to changing road surfaces. Their performance does not gradually degrade with age, usage, or heat--requiring no compensating manual adjustments as with other shocks. "

I guess even if it does self-adjust to changing road surfaces, it might not be as good as having adjustable shocks on a fixed setting?

It still can't compensate a live-axle. that is the problem you deal with.

Seraphita102 I too had a ride that was too harsh my 2001 sporterd Steeda sports springs,Bilsteins HD's,Off set A arms,Bear bumpsteer kit,Caster/camber plates,offset rack bushings,End links,poly spring isolaters 1/4 spacers (springs)X2 balljoints and cobra swaybars. I must say that the thing that made the ride better was off-setting the A arms this helped a lil when it came to overall harshness. My biggest problem with the harshness was the 30+ pound cobra R's I was running,too much unsprung weight for me. If the ride is too harsh try loosing unsprung weight. What rims do you have? And what type of spring isolaters do you have? If you have polyuerathane one's go back to stock and if you don't have them at all then throw some stock ones in there. Jones out.......

Being that low, the ride quality can be harsher. Don't get rid of the bilstein's. Those increase ride quality. Try H&R race springs. Little stiffer spring rates, but not so low. I run H&R Superrace in the rear with bilstein sports and it rides much better than stock.

Are you suggesting that I try H&R race springs only on the rear and leave my super sports on the front?

Switch to 17in rims.

When I put my 17x10.5 wheels on my Mustang I did notice that my ride was better. Try switching to new wheels. 18x10's for the rear if you want to keep the 18in look. Or you could put more rubber on your wheels. Maybe use a tire with a larger side wall to give you more cushion. Just a thought.

Nah, all around. They are a 1.25 drop all around. I have their springs in back because i didn't want to go coilover all around.

Interesting...I've already ordered the H&R SS & Bilstein shocks/struts combo. Should be installed sometime next week, hopefully.

I guess this will become a good excuse to drive around bumps and potholes lol

urethane bushing will help you feel evn more of the road. If you don't like it now, do not put urethane in. some type of adjustables will give you what you want If you want to keep the look and ride height.

hey I had the same problem as you and 3 days ago installed the mm front coilover kit and that was the answer to all my doubts about bilstein, i went with 300# hypercoil springs and with a almost 2" drop now it rides SOOO much better, IMO thats what these cars need, the 18's dont help one bit because of the short sidewall but with the ront mm coilovers its as close to stock plushness as you are going to get, i might drop off my car at chicane for my blower install so if you want you can test drive it just so you know what im talking about.
