In need of better brake setup, rotor and pads

Hi, I have around 10,000km (around 6,210 miles) on my mustang, I just took it for its second service (oil change) I also had a few other problems, anyways I think the Brakes on the mustang are really weak especially for a car that has this much power,

So im thinking of upgrading my brake setup, I’m on a really tight budget, I can’t spend more than $500 (for parts) on it,, so a brake kit is not an option because all the brake kits start from $1500+

Anyways so I was thinking of upgrading my pads and rotors, and using the existing caliper and brake setup,

I have a rotor and pad in mind but I want your suggestions first.

If I have to I will just change the front brakes, pads and rotors only if thats what $500 only buys.

What else do I necessarily need to change anything else such as the brake lines and if so why?

I did a search on this topic and not much info is out there including info from previous mustang generations

By the way will this setup improve the braking drastically or are they just a waste of money.

one upgrade you can do to increase the pedal response is upgrade the rubber brake lines that go to the caliper for a stainless steel braided line.

here is a brake kit with stainless lines, hawk pads, and fluid for the FRONT AND REAR.

i dont know exactly what the price is, but baer has 13 or 14 inch front rotors that use the stock calipers. they come with a relocation bracket for teh calpiers as well. easy install and increased braking power. only thing is youw ould probly need at least 18 inch wheels.

Personally, I would do it right and put money aside each month and save up to buy a big brake kit, either Baer or Brembo.

then i will also need bigger wheels for cleareance, mine are 17inch, bigger wheels means bigger tires, so thats 5k now thats alot of money don't you think, thats adding a zero to my current budget

Hey, I appreciate the link that you provided. I've looking around myself for something but didn't want to have to upgrade to bigger wheels and tires.

I use my car as my daily driver, for street use only no track use.

I took my car in to the dealership to check the brakes and since the car vibrates when braking from 160 to 140km the dealer rep say the brakes were not designed with high speed in mind, they resurfaced my brakes so that they wont vibrate for a while.

I don’t drive 160daily but occasionally I hit that speed

I think the brakes are week since sometimes you need to stop from high speed such as 120km to 20kms in seconds the stock ones seem to need a lot of effort.

Im thinking DBA Disc Brakes Australia Kangaroo Paw Rotors with High Peformance Street (HPS) Pads by Hawk or EBC Rotors Drilled & Slotted, and RedStuff pads (Performance Brake Pads by EBC )

What do what do u guys think???

It sounds like you may just have a brake booster issue or maybe even a master cylinder issue. If your pedal is too hard then its the booster. Take a look at your brake fluid reservoir on top of the master cylinder and make sure its full of fluid. Take a look at it a week later to make sure it isn't leaking any. I've heard of clutch slave cylinders being bad right out of the factory so why not brake master cylinders? Also if your brake pedal is squishy then the brake lines need to be bled of air. It is also wise to change your brake fluid at least once a year... when it absorbs moisture it won't be nearly as effective.

Just look at the obvious things before upgrading your brakes... which is actually a very prudent thing to do... lots of people will pay thousands of dollars to go fast but will balk at the idea of paying a fraction of that to stop fast.

Also increasing the area your tire contacts the ground with will increase your braking capacity... so plan on getting wider tires if you want optimal braking.
