In need of Car Alarm!

Well since I am finally upgrading my stereo I might as well get an alarm TOO!and maybe Lojack.

I was thinking about getting one of the viper models from bestbuy or get a compustar system, and maybe even Lojack.

Have any of you guys used any of these systems? Does anybody know how much low jack IS?

I am getting paranoid every noise at night And I have to check my car And since it is always parked on the road that doesn't help at all.

Should I go ahead and get the $379 viper setup or the $299 setup, or Should I look into the compustar setup?

Whatever you do, dont set it so sensitive that a mouse walking by sets it off. I had a neighbor when I lived in my apartment complex that had a parking spot right outside my bedroom window that had his alarm go off in every thunderstorm, anytime anyone walked by and grazed it, I mean everything. People around me used to set it off for fun, cause it was so easy. My point being, people will mess with your car more if they know they can set your alarm off with ease.

I have been installing them for the past 7 years.. Compustar is hands down the best company I have ever dealt with customer service and warranty wise... The product is also amazing... you can find the new compustar pro spread spectrum 1.25 mile range alarm/starters on ebay for 225 which is our COST or alarm only for about 190... I have the new pro system on my sebring and it is tits.. I also have the older spread spectrum paging unit on my cobra

Hey turbogt.

How hard is it to install?or Will I have to have it A PRO install it?
There is a dealer Just up the road from my work I might go and Take a look at the setup. Can you tell when the alarm is activated from a distance or from in a building?
Also Which one would you reccommend(part #)?

compustar pro 2wss-a Yes. it is a 2 way system.. Range is 1.25 miles.. It can beep loudly and vibrate, or just vibrate to tell you something has been triggered.. It will also tell you WHICH sensor has been triggered (such as the door has been opened, trunk opened, hood opened, or the shock detector has been set off... If you hit the status button you can also check your battery voltage and the temperature inside the car (for remote start purposes)... If you want lo-jack, for another $350 or so, you can add a satellite tracking system called computrack which allows you to monitor the cars postition via satellite at any time... You can also use that system to send a text message to unlock the car if you cannot find your keys, or you can program a code into the knock sensor to unlock the car also without using the remote... Compustar is TITS.... Also available is a backup battery for the system and it carries a LIFETIME warranty..... DEI aka viper, python, clifford, etc doesn't have **** on compustar..

I work at best buy, and i'm deff gonna check out what TurboGt's talkin bout with the compustar... hadn't heard of them or really learned others besides the vipers.

if you choose a viper i'd get one with SST like the 5900 it got 1 mile range. it's R/s and Alarm... if you know someone good a putting them on get it cheaper online and have them do it. AT best buy, the alarm parts and labor can't be seperated so it's 499.99 i think for the 5900 plust $5 material fee. plus ball bearing tilt switch $10 and $5 in wire loom they have to sell you witha R/s Alarm install. $520 plus tax. $520 plus tax installed. that system would include, .. like the compustr.."tell you WHICH sensor has been triggered (such as the door has been opened, trunk opened, hood opened, or the shock detector has been set off... " but no batt voltage or temp sense inside the car.... to get that on Viper, Cliffor, or Python...all divisions of Directed Electronics you have to get the NEW Responder LE... which is everything that TurboGT said bout the compustar... vehicle temp sense for remote start ...
I've looked into the Responder LE pretty well and it's the sweetest Viper, Clifford, or Python... just the remotes are diff.
only downfall is it's only bout half mile range, but i believe is SST ...goes through buildings and poo.

Should I get it with remote start, I heard it makes it easier to find the starter wires or something along those lines.

i have a viper. my huge gripe is the giant buttons on the key fob thing.... im always setting it off while its in my pocket. Its also apparently set quite sensitive so while its at my house i dont even set it lol....i should fix that.

It turns out that it only cost $50 more if I get it with remote start, and the computrack cost $699 WOW.

i got my viper 5900 for $200 and starter bypass for $40. I installed it on my manual transmission. Everyone warned me about installing it on a manual transmission. With everything complete and my wicked alarm system. I am very very scared. I front-end park and crank my steering wheel. I go through a check list of leaving it in neutral or turning off the remote-start when parked in gear.

I've done tons of research on additional precautions. I think I figured out a kill switch if in gear.

Leaving the parking brake on WILL NOT bog the car to die. I tried my car in the street and it started with the e-brake fully engaged. It ran on idle down the street. Of course I was in the car. It dies the moment you step on the brake. Brand new brakes (shoes and rotors) were installed the day before.
