I have a 4160 600 cfm Holley... and I would stay away from that model. It doesn't have the flexiblity for adjustments that most carb's have. It runs well though and I've never had problems with it...

With that said, I think your going to need to provide more build details to get a response for what will work for you.

The edelbrock or new AFB as I call it, is nice for a driver. Easy to adjust and tune a pretty consistent.

I have had good luck on the performance side with the BG Demon carb line. They have good adjustability and the have different versions for different applications. (ie road, street and mighty)

It depends. What size motor is it going on? How is the car used? Performance or gas mileage?

I'm a fan of the Holley DP myself. I've heard good things about the BG.

demon starts everytime and runs awsome they have many choices of great carbs just pick the one that fits your need i have the 525 road demon jr. it gets 20mpg on the highway and my dad has a speed demon no choke and it isnt much different running it starts almost as good and they take sitting in the garage well i can let it sit for a month or two and it will start right up with a few pumps.

I have the Demon 525 as well, did you have to modify your air cleaner to work with the choke?

Air Cleaners

They are designed to function with the Demon carburetor choke linkage without any interference and require no modification of any kind.

i've had them all, holley, carter afb (same as edelbrock performer) 625 road demon (presently) and all of the stock ford carbs.

for my money i would use either a demon or a carter afb or e'brock performer carb if you want an aftermarket carb. if you want a stock ford carb nothing beats the autolite 4100. for the aftermarket carbs the road demon series is a good daily driver carb and the e'brock performer is also a very good driver carb. for a performance application i'd go demon. i've never had very good luck with any of the holley carbs i've had but that's just my personal experience.

The only thing I would caution you on with the Edelbrock or Carter, is that they are much wider than the Holley, BG or Autolite. That may not matter at all to you, but if you want to retain a stock look, with the factory breather, the Edelbrock may not work (it won't on a '69 anyway). I had great luck with an Autolite 600 on my old 351W. Since I replaced it with a 408, I decided the 600 wouldn't be enough. I have to agree with Bnickel, in that I haven't had a whole lot of luck with Holleys. I agonized over the decision whether to go with a BG Demon series or a Holley, and ultimately decided on a new re-issue C9AF9510 M 735 CFM Holley. I did it because I wanted a true OEM type bolt on with no extra vacuum ports, and no PCV port at the back to foul against the stock throttle cable bracket. I also wanted a choke stove that connects to my headers so I don't have to route a 12V ignition sourced wire to operate the choke. I haven't driven it since I installed it (it's at the exhaust shop getting the new headers hooked up to the rest of the exhaust), so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Just some things to consider.

hmmm, i had a 600 carter afb on a basically stock 351w with a e'brock perfomer intake and the stock 69 air cleaner and never had a problem with it.

I have mostly Holleys but I think their quality is terrible and getting worse. I like the Quick Fuel brand which is a Holley design but upgraded and improved by ex-Holley employees. I do not have any experience with Demon brand but have heard a lot of negative press about them. I have a Q-jet which runs good but is not tuner friendly.

i have had good success with all of the carbs listed in this thread, however i prefer these carbs in order;

1: autolite 4100. it is a simple carb that works very well on most street combinations.

2: the edelbrock performer series. these carbs also work well, and are highly tunable to match the fuel curve to the engine fairly closely.

3: the demon carbs. these carbs are an improvement over the holley carbs, but suffer the same problem of running fuel through a gasketed area that the holley does.

4: holley carbs. these are the old stand by carbs that work well but generally run rich in most driving regimes. this can be tuned out though.

5: rochester quadrajet. this is a good carb, but it has its own problems. the well plugs leak, the fuel bowl is rather small, and you have to adapt the spreadbore carb to a squarebore intake.

6: weber carbs. these are the ultimate carbs you can put on any engine. they actually surpase everything but a good efi system, and even then they come close. the problem with these carbs is the number of adjustments that can be made(1000 adjustments and 999 of them are wrogn for your engine). once these carbs are set though, you have an engine that launches hard like a supercharged engine, and is efficient in a wide rpm range, more so than any fuel system except efi.

I thought that a weber system costs at least $5 large to purchase and install.

The demons sometimes get a bad rap from people that are not familiar with the pre adjustments that need to be done. Once on the car, everything you do to the primary butterflies, you religiously do to the secondaries or you're going to have problems.

I love my demon 625 on the Stang, but I've had nothing but problems with the 525 Demon Jr. on my Falcon wagon. Its finally running better but when I bought it I had to completely disassemble it and clean all the machining scape out of it,
Mdjay, I agree there is some pre-installation prep and adjustment differences from a Holley.

I think most the problems people have with Demons and Holleys is the adjustability. The more there is to tinker with, the more there is to screw up.

I have always preferred Holley over Edelbrock and Carter, partly because I have a pretty good idea how to tune em, and partly because I think the Carters and Edelbrocks are ugly!

I think Demons are great looking carbs. Their tri-power set up is gorgeous, albeit too expensive.
