Ok decided to install my T5...been putting it off forever. Anyway I got everything out and installed the new back plate, flywheel, clutch and pressure plate no problems. Went install the bellhousing (from 93GT) and it doesn't fit???!!! :bang:
So I start to measure some things up and here my flywheel is 14" across and I have an 11" clutch?? I'm thinking the previous owner/s did a swap in there somewhere. So my questionis where can I get the proper size flywheel? What years will fit the 289 and be ok for the swap? I saw some on ebay but anyone know where else I can get one? This one day swap is turning into a headache!!!!

Being that your engine is a 289 you'll need a 28oz balanced flywheel. The thing is you'll want one that is 157 teeth not 164, what I pressume you have now. Go on ebay or call mustang depot, thats where I got mine, and they should have one fairly cheap. 157 teeth 28oz.

Thanks guys...I ordered up a flywheel should be here in a few days. Also what gear are you guys usig on your speedo cables? I found on at mustangs plus just not sure if ti's the right one. Once again thanks!

SOunds like you have a 164 tooth flywheel instead of a 157 tooth. You can get a 157 tooth that has a 11" clutch pattern, if I remeber correctly, but they are probably not cheap. Then again, the 157 tooth for 10.5" clutches I got for my swap wasn't either.

oops, late to the party as usual...never mind

Dave..thanks for the link...worked great! Yeah the flywheel is a 164 tooth. Bad part is I'll have to order a new clutch too! This cheap swap is costing me more money than I thought!! LOL guess I can't complain since I got the tranny for free!

As far as I can remember, you can use either the 10" or 10.5" flywheel in the T5 bellhousing. The flywheel can be machined from 50 oz to 28 oz. The guys in the Mustang II forum have done this.

Update:

Well here we are two weeks later and The tranny is finally in!! Took forever for the flywheel to come in then the clutch. So it should be back togeter in an hour or two right??....NOT. tranyup..tranny down...tranny up....tranny down...tranny up...for good?? I sure hope so!! Still have to install the mustangsteve clutch cable setup. Should have that together by tomorrow and hopfully try it out!! One question....are the bolts that hold the tranny to the bellhousing metric??
