Let me start by saying I know nothing about mod motors (I'm a 5.0 guy) so that's why I came here to you guys. I have a subcontractor at my work who has made some pretty tall claims about a 2001 4.6 that he built. He claims to have added nothing but a stroker kit and a Kenne Bell supercharger to his otherwise stock '01 2V 4.6 and gotten 620 rwhp. This seems a bit high to me but I don't know. At what hp point does the stock block come apart? This fellow claims to be a circle track motor builder on the side yet didn't know how to port a set of E7 5.0 heads for another coworker. He won't bring the car to work and always seems to forget the dyno sheet. Still for all I know he could be telling the truth. Any ideas?

A stock 4.6 2V is only good to about 425 hp on stock internals. I would hope that when he stroked it that he replaced the internals with forged pieces, otherwise that claim would be impossible. As to whether that hp level could be reached with what he's done I have no idea. I know adding a KB only to a stock 4.6 will put you up around 400 - 425hp.

As already stated without forged internals that engine would surely pop once it hit the upper 400's. But if he did replace the internals with forged parts I see no reason why he couldn't run oodles of boost and easily produce those numbers......Oh he would also probably need some trans work cause I know the stock 5 speed will not take 500 plus, and I am pretty positive neither will the Auto.....What can the block itself hold on the 4.6 2V anyways?

A.) if you are going stroker, you probably are going to use forged parts.

B.) the block itself, can handle 1000rwhp.

C.) the 620rwhp isn't going to happen unless he has a full exhaust and ported heads, and maybe some cams.

A 5.0 stroker with ported heads, cams, and a 2.6H kenne bell could probably make 620 rwhp at 20lbs of boost

You would really have to get the full specs on the car to determine if its possible to make 620rwhp.

yea, its a forged block which means he can run high boost and produce these numbers.

however, that is not all that is dont to the car for that power.

the car would need a ton of other parts like a new worked fuel system and maybe a bap. he need a maf and huge injectors. he would also prob need exhaust work and cams.

so either he full of it or there is more in the acar itself.

he says supercharger but does he mean all the other stuff you have to upgrade with a blower?

It is possible that he is making that much hp but the fact that he wont bring the car to work and always forgets the dyno sheets speaks louder then words. He is probably BSing you. The combo he speaks of is probably what he dreams about having one day. I have run into more then a few guys like him, Some mod motor guys and some 5.0 guys they are everywhere.

at what point do you stop saying "otherwise stock"??

With a stroker and a Kenne Bell he's obviously got a built bottom end and has done some work to the fuel system. I'd imagine that the stock heads would be a problem, but didn't kenne bell make 600rwhp with one of their cars with stock heads?

Not bringing the car into work doesn't really prove much. I refuse to drive my car to work. I've got enough dings on my daily from the people at work, i don't need one on the mustang.

Not bringing a dyno sheet does make one think twice, though.

Sounds like exaggeration or a manipulated dyno sheet.....or possibly just BS.

Either way, a forged stroker setup an a KB with a good amount of boost should be able to make 500 Rwhp if not more.

I think you've got your answer right there. If I made 620rwhp, I'd have the dyno sheet tattooed on my ass.

I'm gonna go ahead and call BS on this guys claims. If he has stock heads, cams, exhaust he is not making over 600hp with a 2v. I have stage 3 heads, stage 3 blower cams, trickflow intake, full exhaust, intercooled and meth and only making 661 to the wheels with a novi 2000 pushing 18lbs. There is no way a KB is gonna do that on a mostly stock engine.
