I have a fresh 86 motor with mass air conversion GT40 intake, B303 cam and forged pistons that i am looking to put into a 95 rolling chassis. Both the motor and tranny from the 86 are going into the 95 (hopefully) and i am in need of direction as far as what is needed for swap. I have the complete 86 stang just body beat, and the 95 is complete except for motor and tranny.

Thanks Jason

That's a conundrum. There are actually quite a few differences, and you have to choose how you want to set it up. One thing that is for sure is that the driveshaft will be 5/8" too short. You can get a spacer from Steeda to correct that problem.

The 95' engine is 3" shorter than the 86" engine because of the way the accesories are set up. It's quite expensive to get the accessories and brackets for an SN new, unless you find a junkyard with a wrecked SN car with all the brackets. The problem runs all the way back to the timing cover, which is different on the SN cars to accomodate the shorter water pump. In most cases, if you run the fox brackets, you will need to run a taller hood to clear them. You will also have some clearance issues with the electric fan on the SN. If you run an electric fan, you will either way have to run a bigger alternator to supply the power for it. The max amps on a fox alternator is 85, and the SNs came with a 130 amp alternator to run the fan. You can modify the fox alternator bracket with a grinding wheel to fit the bigger alternator. I can tell you how to wire it if that's the way you go.

You can easily use the fox intake and throttle body. You will need a fox throttle cable, which you already have, and do some custom work on the inlet system.

Thanks for the reply. There is a cobra RR hood on the car but i think i want to utilize as much of the original equipment off 95 as posible. I have found a timing cover and bracket for altenator and smog pump used and the car came with the driverside bracket for pwr steerring, a/c along with te pumps. I printed off the wiring info from this site for the throttle body, but i am curious if i have to change the distributer or if i can use the one off my fox body with splicing of wires? Havn't got deep into the project yet because we will have snow here for 3 more months but I wanted to get everything lined up so i can get right into it in a couple weeks.

Yeah, you should be able to use the alternator off your Fox body. At worst you will have to put a new pickup in it, but I'm pretty sure you don't have to do that. I actually bought a rebuilt alternator, and they used a Fox body housing for it.

I can change the alt. to a 130 amp if thats what the car needs for power its the distributer that i am curious if there is a way i can run it.

thanks for your help

Definately going to need the 130 amp alternator. They are $154 right now I think. It's a much more reliable alternator anyway. For the distributer, do you want to run the ignition module on the distributer like on the Fox, or do you want to run it on the fender like in the SN? I'm sure you could wire it either way if you did some hard looking at the wiring diagrams.
