Hi. I've been tossing the idea of installing an indash DVD player for a few months now until it finally dawned upon me to install a computer into my car to save a poopload of cash. I've had a spare computer lying around for the past few months and decided to gut it, clean it, and reinstall a chopped down version of Windows 2000.

Now herein lies the problem:

I bought the harness from Crutchfield that will allow me to install another headunit in my 460 setup. I tested it out with a junk HU and it worked PERFECT. Bass actually sounded significantly better. So I decided to wire together the left speaker wires (+ and - to themselves, not all one giant mess, I'm not dumb) and the right wires, than hook them up to an RCA setup. Let me draw it out for you:

For a split second, I heard sound coming out of the test iPod, than the wires slipped and sparks flew and the next thing I know, (I think) I blew a fuse and the headunit didn't power up.

So basically, my question is... will what I drew above work? Will the amps be powerful enough to amplify a sound signal coming out of a walkman/iPod/soundcard/whatever? Or will the sound phase in and out and am I S.O.L. and gotta go and purchase new speakers, amps, and whatever else?

FYI, the soundcard has a sub-out jack, so the subs aren't a problem. Just can I get sound out of the bloody speakers in the car or no?

The Mach 460 amps are looking for a pre-amp signal rather than a speaker signal that has been broken apart from an I POD or whatever else you may choose. In all honesty I don't know how well that will work, but I think you would be better off spending your time and money on an aftermarket HU with MP3 compatibility. Like I said before I'm not entirely sure how it will work out so let us know if you decide to go that route, but I think in the end replacing the Mach 460 HU with an aftermarket deck would be the best route to go for sound quality and ease. Just my $.02
