Installing Ported E7 heads suggestions.

I bought a pair of worked E7 heads for 125 bucks. Exhaust port has been ported and the intake ports were slightly ported. Has a three-angle valve job, HD springs that can take .550 lift and they have been decked .040. I'm planning on keeping the stock HO cam and buying 1.7 or 1.72 roller rockers, including Fel-pro 1101 head gaskets which are .039 thick(compressed) and ARP head bolts, along with felpro intake manifold and bbk header gaskets. Will I need new push rods? What size?

I don't think so.

I have the same setup in my 90, but with an 1.6s and an E cam, and I use stock pushrods.

IMHO since you are running milled heads and no 2 motors are alike you need to measure for proper pushrod length. everyone has good intensions but in the end it's your motor and the wrong pushrods are going to cause you problems(valvetrain noise,etc.). This one area I wouldn't skimp on measuring, also keep an eye on the intake ports sometimes they won't line up if your intake is a littler thicker at the base. I have heard that sometimes some intakes are thicker than others and the intake leaks, never seen it so I don't know just a heads up but yeah measure in my opinion.

Since the heads have been decked, I'd say you'll almost certainly need ~0.040" shorter pushrods than stock. A pushrod length checker will help you find the correct length.

Ok. Thanks for your help guys! So I'll measure the stock pushrods and buy pushrods that are .040 shorter? I've heard that .040 is the most you can mill them without having to mill the lower intake. I have an Explorer intake manifold on my mustang. These heads are not even ported much. The only thing I noticed was that the thermactor bump was grinded down and the milling itself, along with the valve springs. I practically got them both for free, cause 125 bucks is how much the springs themselves are worth. lol I'm going to send them to a machine shop to give them a "true" port job.

you might, might not. I would purchase a pushrod length measuring tool like this

you can get the anywhere this was just for example, this will show what you need for sure.

Check out the shims that fit between the rocker pedistal and head surface. They are much cheaper than pusrods and easier to deal with. You only need different length pushrods with stud mount rockers. The stock pedistal rockers will work fine with a shim. Use a shim combination as close to the amount of metal removed from the head or block.

Stack two .020 shims to make .040. That will fix you up.

Oh ok. How many .020 shims does that kit come with? 2 x 16 = 32 .020 shims. Two shims for each rocker. Thanks! 50pk means that it comes with 50 of them right? I'm going to buy them.

Are the stock E7 intake ports as big or smaller than the Explorer lower intake ports? I don't want to port the intake side to the point that it is bigger than the Explorer intake ports.
