Installing power mirrors, etc

I ordered my '88 5.0 from the factory with no A/C, power windows, or doors, and since it is an LX, no power trunk or gas fill door or low coolant. The idea at the time was to save weight and make the car a track weapon. 19 years later I am wishing I had some of those power accessories (and maybe the A/C) since I don't do any track time.

I am pretty sure most of the wiring is already around for things but I have no FHE here. I thought I saw pigtails when I pulled the console for my Pro 5.0, but that was last fall and I wasn't specifically paying any attention to that.

So, what I am looking to find out is how difficult it will be to retrofit the following:

==> Power mirrors
==> Power hatch release

The rest I can live with.

I don't think it would be all that bad. Just wiring the mirrors through the doors and cutting a hole in your console for the switch sounds like the hardest part. Im not sure what your car has or not, but you'll need the hatch switch and solenoid and the mirrors and switch and all associated wiring. Im just surprised thats all you want.

The only options my '88 LX was ordered with were the 5.0, 3.08 rear, tint windows, rear defrost and premium sound. The rest was "stripped out" so to speak. Manual windows, doors, side mirrors, no A/C. I'm not sure how much wiring is already hanging around behind body panels but I'm hoping with my fingers crossed that these cars are a lot like Japanese cars with one wiring harness and options installed as they are ordered, so all of the wiring and pigtails are already there, just not terminated.

I've been there and done that on my 87 LX hatch. It only had the 5.0 package and AC when I bought it new. When I was 22, manual windows/locks were not a problem, now I like the power stuff! I changed to a full power black interior a few years ago.

My experience was that the power hatch & gas door wiring was there, I just had to get the switch and the power hatch release. I would think the coupe would have it too. I tried the gas door setup, but it never worked right since I didn't have the proper fuel filler plastic piece. The ones with the gas latch must be tougher since mine just flexed and popped open easily.

The power windows/locks and mirror wiring was not there. You need the under dash wiring that goes from door to door along with the wiring in the doors and the rubber wiring boots along with the power regulators and power lock actuators to make the power windows/locks work. Get aftermarket lock actuators, like Parts Express.com ones, not the Ford ones, LMK in you want details. The under dash harness plugs right into the factory harness in the driver's kick panel, a two wire plug with black/white and a pink wire I believe. Also you would need the circuit breaker to put into the fuse box for the windows.

As for the mirrors, I had to strip a console wiring harness from a donor 4 cyl car and got just the mirror wiring from the console switch to the doors. It was combined with the lighter, ebrake, seatbelt, ashtray light harness under the console and was not included in my car. It connected up with one power lead to the lighter wire and a ground and it works great. It is possible you could swap out the harnesses, if the year models are the same.

LMK if you have any more questions.
