How often do you clean the butterflies on your stang ?
I noticed it is mandatory for a good idle to clean the butterflies once a year with cai and now with the S/C I have to clean them every 8 months or so .

Mine are as clean as they were when the car had about 1500 miles on it. I've never cleaned them and have never had a problem. Then again, I took them off when the car had 1500 miles
That doesn't sound too bad, there can be a decent about of oil through the PCV system, you could try air-oil separators in the PCV lines.

i clean my intake w/ carb cleaner 2x/year. just shoot some of that carbclean in there, then start it up and it runs smoother and and feels like it runs cleaner. sometimes i get a backfire when it first starts up after shooting the carbcleaner in, then it runs real smooth.
I often wonder about some of the "maintenance" people do to their cars.
If this is not covered as part of your regular Ford service or maintenance, why do it unless you're having idling/driving issues? I mean, you think that it would be noted somewhere as a procedure you should do if it was necessary. Same thing for the oil catch can devices. Sure, if your car is a race car, you might need this, but on a street car?
I actually don't get oil coming through my passenger valve cover, and since the driver side is after the TB I haven't needed to clean my TB. I'm considering getting an air/oil separator for the passenger side.
Cleaning the MAF regularly is just a good idea, keep the wires free of crud that will throw off the readings.

sure it is not necessary to clean the intake, but it will get dirty in time, everything will. your drivers manual doesnt say to clean your engine area at regular intervals, but i bet alot of us do it anyways.
i had a catch can but took it out bc i like the look of my breathers now better. there is blow by coming out the passenger side, nothing out the drivers side, so i clean it off every couple days of driving. i am a bit anal when it comes to the performance and cleanliness of this car, so cleaning out the intake is just one of the unnecessary things that i do regularly.

What kind of breathers are you running. Do you have an oil cap breather as well? Let me see! leat me see! let me see!
Been thinking about doing this also.
I cleaned mine with throttle body cleaner and a soft cloth. Didn't really notice any big difference. I cleaned my MAF sensor with MAF Sensor cleaner, same result. The MAF didn't look that bad. Be careful when cleaning the throttle body, don't use anything that might scratch the coating inside.
