I went to a swap meet today and picked up an old school Offy single plane intake....not really what i was looking for, but it is in new condition and was dirt cheap so I figured I'd try it out. The bolt holes on the intake line up perfect to the heads, but when bolted down the intake looks like it sits too low on the heads. The very outside edge of the inake lines up about even with the top of the intake port on the head. What the heck is going on? Did I get ahold of an intake that is made for a 9.2 deck height 351? The heads are victor jrs and my block is a 69 C90E casting.

I thought that might have been the case too, but I can get every bolt in. All the bolt holes line up perfectly.

ok, I just for kicks I tried to put on a stock 5.0 lower intake. No way, the bolt holes dont even come close to lining up. So now i know the Offy intake isn't for a 302.

Was this with gaskets in place?

A thick gasket would line the runners up....

how thick of a gasket is available? If I lift the intake strait up about a quarter inch, the runners would line up perfect. I didn't think of this until right now, but I remember the guy that I bought my victor jr heads off of had this problem on his 347. They don't have a part # on them, they just say victor jr and I know they have 60cc chambers and a 2.05 intake valve. Could these possibly be some sort of high port heads?

Maybe at one time it was machined to match up to heads that had been machined.

You can get two Fel-Pro 2262R gaskets (I think thats the right part number...) thats should do it.

Do you have a unusually thick head gaskt?

no, actually there are used old head gaskets on it right now that I was using just to check PTV clearance.
I looked at the edelbrock web site and they do sell a "victor" cylinder head that require intake spacers to solve this problem, but not on the "Victor Jrs". It seems that if I get the intake raised up enought to solve this problem, I will create on hell of a gap on the front a rear intake sealing surfaces. Some permatex grey would seal that up fine, but something is definately funky here.

Yea,but this is wierd,a 69' is a shorter block,so the intake should be too large and need milling...

You sure its not for a 9.2?

Can you get a pic up of the intake?

whats really weird is the fuel injected Performer RPM intake did the same thing on the 302 that these heads came off of. These heads have not been milled.....I'll try to post some pics up here in a bit.

it's almost like my heads are made for a nascar style 9.2 deck 351, but they do not make victor jrs like that, only victors.

I dunno man,thats wierd.

I bet that intake was made for a certian production iron head,or Windsor heads on a Cleveland block?

I dunno, should get a Vic Jr. intake...better anyhow.Sell that one on ebay as a one-off custom (cause it dont fit nothing)

I thought that too, until I remembered that the car that my Vic Jrs came off of had this same problem with an EFI Performer RPM intake. I know the vic jr intake is way better, I just picked this one up because it was a low profile single plane, it was only $75, it is in awesome shape, and everything will fit under the 1.5 cowl hood....(ok, so it was about the only ford part I could find at the swap meet).....anyway, I can't figure it out and the Edelbrock tech line was no help....they told me the heads have been milled, but as you can see in the picture it is just opposite of what would happen if they were milled too much, plus they still measure 60cc.

That doesn't look like a single plane intake to me. How do the ports line up?
