intake gasket question

well I just completed my intake change over yesterday on my car, and it took about 16 hours, but I was not in any hurry to get it done, and I check everything twice. I used new lower intake gaskets(even though it had only been about 1000 miles since I last had the intake off, its good insurance), and I use only silicone on the block ends. I have been doing that for years also with no problems, and I dont even let the silicone dry over night, I just fire it up and go when I am done, no leakage yet. Its not to hard of a job, just take your time. Also I always torque my lower intake to 23ftlbs, and my upper to feel.

Edit: oh on the lower intake gasket I too use silicone around the water jackets, and a little dab of silicone here and there and let it dry to hold the lowere gasket in place.

I was taught by an old timer ...( guy 4 houses down from my parents that worked on nothing but fords since time began ) to put silicone on heads right around the coolant jackets along with on the corners , he said if you ever had a sealing issue it would be on the coolant jackets since you have the pressure on it when its hot and the silicone just adds a little more protection from blowing out under pressure ...I have always done this and advised others to do so and never seen one leak ....

Sage advice.
